Basic nutrition?
Hey
Another novice here.
I was wondering, is there a general rule of things you need to keep replenishing during your rides? Obviously water and carbs but Im not too sure as to how much or when? Any tips or guides would be very much appreciated!
Cheers
Rueben
Everything was going fine until.......
I got back in the car after a couple of laps taking in Duck Hole/ Centre Trails, headed back to Long via Perimeter Trails then to the car. Thats when the games began.
Was feeling tired but overall quite good, sore legs etc but nothing to stressful. Jumped in the vehicle for the drive home.
Pre race fuelling
An interesting approach to pre race fuelling. It has the added benefit of maximising sleep time when you've got an early morning race start (like the up-coming Capital Punishment)
Calories, Powermeters, and a lovely video
Hey all.
So I havent forgotten I have promised to wrtie some stuff down in a regular blog about training. I am just working on the format, and how to make it 'real' for all levels of rider. There might even be some videos (if JP and I ever get to sit down and plan it)...
In the meantime, I wanted to share this link with you all. It written by a guy called Allen Lim, who is pretty much a 'go to' source on food and fluids.
Bars not beverages!
What is everyone doing for nutrition on long rides...besides bananas!I've been using Swisse carb bar which worked well for me on the convict last year. Now it looks like they've discontinued this bar which is a real pity. My understanding is that it's mostly Carbs that need replacing besides the salts. So what are you using and what would you recommend?
Tooth-friendly gels?
This week I managed to lose a front tooth trying to tear open a Gu with my front teeth while riding - a process that I have done many times before, without any negative teeth impact.
For context, it was a dead tooth (root canal work a couple of decades ago) and I'm at an age where my teeth are starting deteriorate around the many fillings I had as a result of growing up before they put fluoride in our drinking water.
I've only ever used Gu as it sits OK on my stomach and I like the chocolate flavour.
Energy Gels
I've been using energy gels for awhile now and always feel rubbish in my stomach during and after training. I'm even down to just one gel just before I hit the trails but still have a niggling stomach ache, though very dull. Anyhow, my main question is what is the alternative? I've been thinking about using natures (fruit, nuts etc) own but not sure which foods will give me what I need. Any advice out there would be appreciated. Cheers

Pre Race diet
Hi all,
Now the Highland Fling is approaching, it's time for me to make some serious decisions. First of all, should I enter? Well that‘s still got a question mark as I just had the pleasant surprise that I have an exam at 9:30am the next morning. Bloofy bad timing!
But on the assumption that I DO do the ‘Fling, I'm looking more at the nutrition front and wondering what other people do in terms of the diet.

What to do...
Well, after all this rain, I thought I'd give this new-fangled road riding thing a go. After two days, I can't say I'm too taken with it.
So, until the tracks dry up, I'm looking at starting cooking as a new pastime. Anybody got any decent recipes they'd like to share?
