No longer a fire trail, is now a fire road since the graders have done their work!

Date:
3 Apr 10

No longer a fire trail, is now a fire road since the graders have done their work! 3rd ring the whole way down, no rocks, few water bars and very fast.

Unfortunately for us MTB's the Andersons is now serving it's purpose as a fire road a lot better than before. Riders will be disappointed to hear this is not longer a flowing trail with rocks and fun, and is now a flat graded road hence my fast time...

Appin fun

When:
Monday, 5 April, 2010 - 09:00

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Appin
Meeting Point:

North end of Burke St, Appin. There's a small parking area here at the trail head.

Note that the map shows Market Street connecting Appin Rd to this location but that is actually a firetrail and will not work for drivers who should take King St (next block South) and enter from there.

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

Making use of my new westie location, I'm going to Appin easter monday.

This is posted as a social ride, i'm happy to stop to practice/play on the technical sections. I don't mind what pace we ride at, my legs will be smashed from the oaks ride tomorrow.

Recommendations for noobs

Been developing quite a legion of noobs to MTBing of late and one of them has asked what he should get as his first dual suspension.
I'm some what cringe at the notion that he said he wanted to get one off ebay but it aint my stoush, so i told him to go with a Stumpie over a Giant Trance, both 4 years old.

Question is... is ebay ever a good place to get your first rig? And does anyone wanna offload an old dual suspension rig for around $800?

still getting used to new bike only 3rd ride

Date:

Hit the Dam this morning for my 3rd outing on my new bike which is going sweet much better than the old Norco. Trying to get used to the gearing as it is a lot different and is bringing me unstuck on the climbs / uphills as i find im either hitting a gear to high or low should only take a couple more rides to figure it out. did to laps and hit a 39 and a 40 hopefully within the next couple of rides i'll be down around 35 - 37 mins

Brake pads

Any recommendations on brake pads? I have Avid Elixir's and am putting in an order with CRC so think that I may as well get some brake pads as it will be my last order for a while (sure). Is there something I should be looking out for ("metal organic", "sintered", "organic", "ceramic"...wtf) and any brands that are recommended over others?

Manly Dam

Hi guys,

has anyone been around (run or ridden) the dam today?

Just wondering how it has coped with the rain and if it suitable for riding tomorrow.
