Kanangra Classic

I work for Mountain Sports, which is putting on the Kanangra Classic mountain biking event on October 20. I think Kanangra-Boyd National Park is a very special place. Here is a story I've written about the Kanangra Classic you might find interesting.
Regards, Daniel Lewis

In 1931, the renowned bushwalker and conservationist Myles Dunphy and his wife Margaret explored the wild Kanangra region of the Greater Blue Mountains, pushing and pulling and sometimes having to carry a strange object that made people stare with amazement.

Dry weather and loose rocks

Whilst out for a lovely morning ride at Terrey Hills, navigating down the steep bit at end of Long Track, hit some loose stuff, over the handle bars I go, down the side of the embankment.....If only I had my GoPro on! Batted an bruised, dislocated finger and not happy that I had a 30min slow ride back to the car and another 3 hours at the hospital, and it started so nice!!

Specialized Epic S-Works VS Specialized Epic Marathon Carbon 13'

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi All,

Looking at the new 14' models coming through shortly, I've been trying to buy my new ride and after talking to Bike shops and working out prices and what not, I'm stuck on which bike to get

As per the heading I'm tossing up between the 13' S-works and Marathon models and If anyone has any personal experiences with either ride, Id love to hear it

I'm looking at about a 2,000 - 2,500 difference and an wondering if your getting that much worth getting the S-works over the Marathon, Being a lot of money I'm trying to be 100% sure before I go ahead

Thanks,

Wollemi overnight ride - suggestions?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Any ideas from the brains trust for a Wollemi weekend ride??

We had in mind Putty to Dunns Swamp, however the scope seems a bit much and water perhaps unavailable on the way.

Any ideas for a loop or out-and-back, which involve an overnight camp preferably with water somewhere on the way. We have filtration/purification gear so water that needs that is OK so long as not too scungy.

Old trails would be fine, buff fireroads aren't necessary.

damage to wilderness by using sandstone gravel in a watercourse

no point filling with sandstone gravel in a watercourse!

Especially upstream of threatened vegetation community and threatened reptile species

location: Lawson Ridge fire trail.

tracks in declared wilderness

If possible I would like advocates and riders to avoid engaging with NPWS concerning riding on tracks in wilderness.

My reasoning is that in the Wilderness Act, provision was made to include "self-reliant" recreation as an objective of declared wilderness. When this was done, the intention was to exclude 4WDs, motorcycles & horses. Canoeing and cycling were not meant to be shut out, in recognition of low impact and compatibility with wilderness values.
