Second time fail...maybe next year

The forecast for the weekend was for 30+ temps. Tien and I were saying to each other the night before that this was a bad sign for us. The last time we rode in high temps we really struggled compared to the rest of the group.

Time to get back on the bike

Hmmmm just got back into Sydney after two weeks of booze, eating, partying and little sleep in Macau and Hong Kong.

Bike has still not been washed from the Dirtworks and had to go out a belt notch.

Time to get back on the bike Laughing out loud

Update 11/06/09: Rode into work today. Boy am I unfit now. Ride time was about 10min more but more importantly I felt buggered! If only it wasn't so cold. My toes, ears and fingers are still defrosting Laughing out loud

Dirtworks 2009 100km

Well this turned out to be a better effort than my previous 100km efforts. I had been a bit lazy on the training since the Mont so I had no idea how prepared I was.

First of all.....best 24hr race I've done so far!

Driving is so slow

Well I had to drive from Hornsby to the CBD this morning as I have to go to Holsworthy after work to shoot at things. Man does peak hour traffic suck. It took me 1hr 15min. Same time as it takes me to ride into work.

The new $4 toll and cashless bridge sure don't seem to make much of a difference in speed heading into the city.

Well in order to get half fit for the upcoming 24hr and 100km races I thought I'd go exlore a commuting route to the CBD from Hornsby with Paige. Having never ridden much on the bitumen before I decided to find the quietest route possible. Turns out that it was easier than expected to find a route with next to no traffic.

Well I went to Thredbo this Christmas with Bruce for a go at some real downhill runs. Turns out I have a lot to learn Smiling

I didn't have the best lead up to it with my stupid stack at Duck Holes of all places the week before! Leg still had the scabs on it and knee was still a bit stiff but I thought I'd give it a go anyway.

New Helmet

Well had to get myself a new helmet today.

Went to Red Hill with Tien and had a really stupid stack. Fell off and did a nice head butt to the sandstone! Cheapo Adura helmet saves the day but has a nice crack down the side.

Went and got myself a new Fox Flux which should offer even more protection.

I really should try and crash less Smiling

My weekend got off to a bad start. While I was putting up the tent a crazy black inch long ant bit me on the finger. Boy did that hurt. Thanks Pikey for the Stingose. It helped a bit!

First Aid

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Once again today, it reinforces the fact that everyone should carry a first aid kit in their backpack on rides.

Rob had a good stack going down Shephards Gully today and put a good 10cm long gash down his forearm. It was deep too....down to the muscle.

I did my best to patch him up and off to Hornsby Hospital we went. Well done to the staff. Got Rob looked at immediately and stitched up relatively quickly.

So don't forget to bring at least a basic first aid kit and perhaps do a St Johns course too. You never know when you may need to use the skills.
