2013 3 Ring Circus

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The 3 Ring was my first mtb race back in 2011 when i scraped in under 3hrs after a leisurely blue lap. With that in mind I was determined to be closer to the front this time and straight away that disappeared. (Clearly another one who's too polite to push in).

I'll start with a brief story of what happened in the previous nights 20km race,

During a cold night race with a blistering pace, I'd managed to get in the second group with Dicko, another Mate from Manly, Myself and another Rider, We all stuck together for the whole 20km loop, just near the end the bloke that had been sucking our wheels for the whole time made a sprint for the lead, We didn't know why but realised pretty soon that the finish line had crept up on us and he claimed the win with Myself in 2nd and Dicko in 3rd and my mate from Manly missing out on a well earned podium spot.

Decided to do both the night and day version this year and camp out at the event centre. Good to be in the thick of the circus event centre vibe, though I'm getting bit old for extended periods of techno beats.... Smiling

3 Rings circus Team entry

Happy with my first bike race, I finished! I did the Blue and Yellow course and my mate Dave did the Red course. We weren't first but overall a solid effort by both of us. We now have a time to beat next year!

So far this year I've had some ok race results. Top 10 in my category in capital punishment, and just outside top 10 for convict. So my goal for three ring circus was top 10 in male masters and top 50 overall. This was my first time doing this race, so I looked at last year's results and figured I would need to go well under 2 hours 30 to achieve my goal. My preparation had gone well - personal best times in my last couple of training rides, and I had one practise ride on the trails at Wingello 2 weeks ago - the stage was set to achieve my goal.

Jetblack fluid Z1 trainer flywheel

Hey Guys,

Does anyone have any experience with changing the flywheel on a Jetblack Fluid Z1 trainer to the upgrade 2kg wheel ?

A few weeks ago I bought a new wheelset, nothing outrageous, just a decent set of XT 29ers. Of course, I weighed them against my old wheels before I fitted them and found that I'd saved about 300g. This then lead me to remember I still hadn't done anything about my knackered BB and maybe if I replaced that, I could save a few more grams. I searched around and decided that the best thing to do was buy a whole new crankset, again, nothing outrageous, but an upgrade all the same. A few days later, it arrived with a sticker saying "HGX chain only".
