Wolves in the Mountains, Were!
After another great morning on the Oaks last Sunday, I will definitely be venturing into the mountains on the next full moon to enjoy this sweet track under the night sky.
When Sunday 4th 5th November, obviously at night, but time to be confirmed depending on train timetables and track work. (At the moment I can't do Friday or Saturday nights but if this changes would be happy to switch to either of these nights.) Probably aim to get to Woodford around 7 - 7.30
Where The Oaks Trail of course. Standard run, sorry Rob;-) Meet at Glenbrook station carpark, train to Woodford and then bliss back to the cars. Depending on who comes, and how everyones lights are holding up, we can bail back onto the road at the top of the last technical single track or maybe just go for it.
I would suggest you will need lights for this, alot of smooth flowing single track which makes it hard to buddy up and share.
Flingers, don't say you need a longer run this close to the event. Go for your training ride in the morning and then back up for a social wind down that night, great time to start tappering.
Rumour has it Rob might even unveil his new Subaru Rally Art headlights, you might even be able to see these from Sydney!!
Don't forget your spare tubes and a wind/rain jacket, that run down hill will get very cold at that time of night in the mountains.

Oaks at night is great fun. So definitely count me in. I would also recommend clear or very lightly tinted sunglasses.
Dude - the 4th of Nov is a Saturday... but then you go on to say you can't do Saturdays - so I assume you mean thr 5th?
Kindof have plans on that day which would preclude this. But... if the lights are built and ready maybe these could change.
Sorry all, this head cold is starting to take its toll. I did in fact mean Sunday the 5th of November, which is the night of the full moon.
I have to say it sounds tempting - I shall check with my unofficial Half a Fling Trainers! - Don't want to fall off in the dark and miss the ride hey!
MEEE
ps i know you don't believe me, but the moon is paler in Summer...!!!
Of course we do Christine, just like we believe you could ride Terry Hills with no lights;-)
It makes sense really, the sun is higher in the sky during the summer months which obviously changes the angle that it reflects off the moon at night. This would then naturally change the reflected angle of light back to the earth making it appear paler.... I really do need to get a life!
Sorry all, but something I had forgotten about has reared its ugly head and I can now only do this Sunday 5th.
So far only Evan and I, any other takers?
Stuart
Sorry Stuart but I've done the same thing. I had got my weekends confused and have to attend a family do on Sunday afternoon.
My apologies as I was really looking forward to a night ride again.
Evan
... Sorry Stuart, not this time. Have fun.
I really want to do this ride but can't this weekend...I am working all of it...
typically when we say a night ride it's cloudy again as well!
bugger!
Well a lack of interest, and availability, has yet again meant that this will be a solo event. So in the name of being an absolute blouse and erring on the side of safety our inaugural Oaks night run has again been canned. What a shame!!
Not sure what I have to do to convince people that this is a great ride during the day, made even better at night Oh well.
Will try again next month but me thinks that the full moon will then be during the week and a local ride might be better.
Good luck to all Flingers next week.
Stu
I have riden the Oaks without full moon help and it was fine. Obviously full moon would be good. I'm up for a Oaks night run anytime.
Evan
once we aren't so busy at work i am happy to go on a weekend night - it may get me to improve my lights!
very sorry it's been postponed!
MMME
Hi Stuart
Am very keen to do the Oaks - up or down, day or night, but alas not this Sunday (existing family commitments).
Cheers
