frame respray
looking for some advice on getting a frame sprayed. Doing it myself is not an option living in a shoebox in the city so if anyone can recomend a place and give me rough idea on cost/time etc that would be great. looking to get a steel frame rigid fork powder coated. Thanks in advance Bri.

Hey Brian - long time no see
I've been dreaming of a re-spray for a while now
I reckon Gripsport is probably your best bet
http://www.gripsport.com.au/bike_main.php?part=b...
He's bike specific and always receives rave reviews (check our farkin)
Ring Jon on Ph(03) 9437 1954
I think he has a $30 post and return to Melbourne for a frame
Bernd had his frame sprayed there - the pink he chose was a bit lighter than he wanted (he wanted a more 'manly' pink)
But the job itself is A1
Can't remember the price, but it's not ridiculous and well worth it

Hope it helps

thanks for the help guys!! would prefer to keep it in sydney as opposed to sending it to melbourne. Good to hear from you Andy long time no ride!! will have to catch up soon.Might be up in the mountains next week will give you a call if you fancy a midweek slack off work ride?
Bri.
Will need a days notice so I can get all my work done
Can maybe take an arvo off 'to get my tax done'
I'll give you a bell
If you're taking that attitude why don't you sign up for one of Bikeboy's Canberra rides and just tell work you're that bloke in the HR Block ad and things slowed down a bit when your lady accountant started plucking dockets off your nether regions?
Hi
What I have done in the past is gone to a smallish local panel beater and asked the next time they are spraying a red, blue, silver or what ever colour you want can they do my frame at the same time.
The only thing I have always taken it stripped and clean metal.
Spray usually takes 2 to 3 weeks for anything other then white, and cost a couple of slabs.
I have never really understood the whole frame spray debate
as alot of people recomend Grip
ive seen his work and yeah its impressive.
why not just go through the yellow pages and find your local sandblaster/powder coater
there are several in the Milperra area and all gave me prices over the phone
and colours were varying
give it a go
alternatively try the local smash repairer as they are in the business of spraying
cheers and let us know how it goes
maybe post some pics too

i think i will go with suggestions from greg. gazza if you read this did you get any work done?? the plan is to try it on the commuter which is a very ugly sh*#ty brown at the minute then if they do a good job get the yeti done which has picked up a few scratches and looks a bit sorry for itself!!
i will do some before and after pics and post them up when its all finished. cheers bri.
I recently got my Commuter frame painted, along with a few other bits that came with the frame (bars, stem, seatpost & a few little bits). The job came out fantastic. Really smooth finish, colour matched all over.
Some pics below:
Enjoy!
those discs are way cool
with that greyish color base you could have, and still could, go the full camo look
.. except for the link from Pikey, who also mentions the need o sandblast it clean first.
This is a frame I painted a number of years ago. It's my Cannondale Criterium. Hasn't been riden in donks, as it needs a new wheels set and drivetrain, among other reasons.
I got a genuine sticker set and stuck them on the basecoat, then cleared over the top of them. It's yellow pearl base, then edged using blue pearl. If I could get a genuine specialized sticker set for the Enduro, I'd respray at as well. I was lead to believe the enduro was an ano finish, but it's just paint. haha
This sort of job would be quite expensive, but it looks awesome!
The cost of getting everything done for me was about $250 from memory, including the full bead blast & powder coating. To get a frame only done with Grip is about $150 (hardtail - I believe full sussers are more). The extra $100 for me was to do all the extra bits I wanted to get done with the frame. For those interested, here's a list of everything I got done:
- Frame.
- Seat Post.
- Seat Clamp.
- Handlebars.
- Bar Ends.
- Stem (inc. clamp).
- 4x headset spacers.
I was happy with all of this, and it made the bike turn out exactly as I wanted it to - stealth from afar, but really neat up close. I love this bike every time I look at it.
I reckon it could probably be done a little bit cheaper if it was to happen in Sydney (or wherever is local for you), but at least with Grip you know what you're going to get - a very pro job from a company that works with bikes all the time! Total turn around time was 2 weeks, mainly due to a me sending it on a Wednesday, and there being a long weekend in the middle of the process.
