Some advice please... Would like to plan a ride from Wisemans Ferry to Mogo Creek Rd Junction along the GNR.
(Dont know the area very well)
Is it feasable to drive 2 vehicles to Mogo Creek Rd/GNR junction (say to Mogo camp & picnic area) leave one vehicle there and drive back to Wisemans Ferry & leave the other vehicle there.
This way we would only ride one way.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Graham

When you get to the end of the GNR it's not particularly all-that, just a road, no views or nice spot to stop and eat and reflect on your achievement.

Personally I'd make it an out and back, the GNR is a lot fun. And twice as much if you do it in reverse. Those gnarly rock garden climbs become fun downhills on the way back. PLUS you can finish with a mad 'ear to ear face grinning' run down Shepherds Gully. All up it's about 100kms of good clean fun.

Well that's what I did on Saturday anyway.

Enjoy
Phil

Yeah, it is possible to drive up and leave a vehicle to drive back but as Phil says, why bother? Just ride ride out until you have reached half of your required distance (or maybe a little less to be safe) then turn and return. No, you don't have to go the whole way like some loons Eye-wink

Just remember you are not meant to ride down Devines Hill so after that grin fest down Shepherds Gully it's 9km of sealed road back to Wisemans.

Liz and I have done this trip several times.

Itinerary 1:
- Drop car
- Ride GNR to Mogo creek campsite (which is very nice)
- drive back the next day
- stop for lunch at the pub

Itinerary 2:
- Carry your camping gear
- camp at Mogo
- Ride back the next morning, lunch and a beer.
- The ride back is basically all downhill or flat - it's an absolute blast, if you come back along the (dirt) road.

1) Head out from ferry up Western Commission Track for a warm up (right off the ferry), get to Mogo Creek (40k's), turn around and come back down via Shepherd's gully for a little bit of variation at the beginning and end (+45-50k's?).

2) Head out from ferry up the convict trail (left off the ferry), get to Mogo Creek (40k's) then come back down the road thru St Albans (+60k's). It ain't a pretty road but 95% unsealed and tests mental strength without having to focus on very technical riding, plus I personally like the countryside, plus you can stop at St Albans for beer or tiffin at a couple of places and have only 20k's to get back to the ferry.

I've never done the car shuttle thing but it's a 60km drive from Wiseman's to Mogo Creek. I'd use the 2 hours for riding..
