the forum and i havent beaten that time since. so its a retrospective lap. gpx file is available.

i reckon we should be posting gpx files of our hot laps so that they can be downloaded and used by others as a 'ghost rider' for those trying to improve their time... it would help to see where you are losing time.

I did think about that. While I ponder it some more, you could put it on GPSies, Garmin Connect, or one of the other sites out there and post a link?

That's a good idea. I'll update my last lap now, you can all laugh at where I go the wrong way Smiling

Is there a chance that could lead to incidents like this: http://nobmob.com/node/11164

... straight through a ghost rider? I mean what's he gonna do, apart from say "Boo!" It's not like he's going to rattle your chain or anything, is it?Sticking out tongue

GPX to GPSies
TCX to Garmin Connect

TCX has heart rate info and seems more detailed than GPSies.

enjoy.

When I had a crack at a few quick laps earlier this year to see where the fitness was at both times that morning there were no less than three or four seperate groups or individuals to pass, there's just a nice way to do it even when your having a bit of a crack
Most people partiuclarly respond well to the saying "enjoy your lap brother" on the way through. Polietly announce your presence (noisy brakes help Eye-wink ) be patient and wait til they feel comfortable and sing out for you to pass. Off you go, Piece of piss ...
Besides nobodys racing for a block of flats so what does it really matter ah ...
And if they don't let you through they probably don't know much better.
If they really are being a bit of a trail hog which does happen from time to time. After you finally pass ride their pace for a bit and drop your guts... They'll get a message of some sort Eye-wink

I've done at the dam, was passed a couple of times, and me being new I wasn't attuned to listening for noises behind.

I very light-heartedly suggested the fast riders might wear a bell, like a cat.
which now doesn't sound like such a bad idea, apart from the sissy factor.
but if you thought you were going to have a reasonable go, something on a wrist you could dangle a bit, but then you could just yell, politely.
'twill ponder the fors/againsts and expect some ideas hopefully flame free Eye-wink

Hmmm I use it with peds because they expect a bike to have one and sometimes complain when I don't use it. But riders I think might find being tinged at a little rude. Voice works best IMO.

On the occasions that I've caught and passed others (usually on the descents), the racket my bike is making on the trail is almost always enough and the rider in front moves over without being asked. I suspect the sensation of having someone right on their tail is a distraction and makes them uncomfortable.
