New to NoBMob
Hi Guys, I am new to NoBMob and wanted to introduce myslef. Originally from France I picked up MTB a couple of years ago in the US before moving to Sydney last year. I ride in Lane Cove, Terry Hill, Blue mountain and GNR area. I am mostly interested in XC riding, 20 to 50 Km in lenght. I recently spent 10 days in the Snowy with my wife and discovered many exiciting MTB trails there. My wife is also a keen rider. Couple of questions:
1/ Can I put my name for any of the ride in the calendar even though I do not know any of the riders?
2/ I have riden quite a few of the tracks posted on the site. Can I contribute and post some new tracks there as well?
Cheers
Chris

1/ Yes. Just get out there and do it.
2/ Yes (I think I will cue Rob here, who likely will insert comments about legal trails and advocacy)
The more you post, and the more rides you attend, the more people you will meet, and the happier we all will be!!
Pretty much what Ditty said. Welcome
Dunno what your point 2 is though. Do you mean there are areas you'd like to document in the trails database? If so, sure thing - go ahead and create a trail database entry (you have to be a content author to do this - keeps things more simple for those who don't want to - although that difference might get binned soon).

Welcome to nobmob, Chris. There are some geat trails and riding companions here on the northen beaches. You are more than welcome to join us on rides.
A bit of background:
The legality some of the best local trails we used to ride has become a red hot sensitive issue over the last two years or so.
Tracks through National Park areas that have been used for decades with little environmental impact have for the most part been shut down, and rangers have become very active in fining riders using them since they have been mapped and posted here and on other forums. It has also set back trail advocacy efforts when "illegal" tracks are posted - those responsible for management of the affected land have resented and bristled at the fact that mtb riders have been disregarding their access rules. While some of those land managers are plainly idiots, some are not and we need to respect their obligations and the legal and accountability frameworks they are constrained by.
Rob and some other nobmobbers in particular, myself and others here to a lesser degree, have been writing letters and lobbying to facilitate greater access to legal singletrack trails on the northern beaches. That activity is starting to pay off, and we are seeing some progress, although as with anything involving government, the rate of progress is glacial. This progress could easily be scuppered by someone doing the wrong thing.
So if you could exercise care with the trails you post and consult with Rob before putting them up we would greatly appreciate it.
Hopefully we'll meet soon.

Thanks a lot for your replies and proposed rides. I had planned to ride narrow neck with my wife tomorrow ( Saturday) so won't be able to join you but will probably do so on the following week end or during the week if there is any rides. On the subject of posting new rides as suggested I will run them past Rob and make sure there are legit before doing so. I did quite a few in the snowys and wanted to share them.
Cheers
Thanks for the offer Tom but I will be doing narrow neck tomorrow. Nice to hear from a french guy. Are you a sailor as well?
