Narrabeen lake
Does anyone feel like an easy ride around Narrabeen lake this afternoon/early evening? I'm going to head out for a 6pm start, come along if you're interested. We can meet at Jamieson Park. PM or post back for my phone number to ensure we hook up.

Tanya,
Sorry for the late reply. But I was otherwise booked for weekend rides.
I have never heard of a trail running through this area. Could you elaborate more? Is it a fire trail? Single track? Smooth, or technical? Maybe you have some web links for this?
I am always interested to hear of, or complete, new trails. I would be happy to go out there on a weekend, if available.
Thanks.
It’s really pretty and lovely and flat!
You can either ride around the whole lake or from Narrabeen to Dee Why (where we stop for coffee/food!).
Sorry Tanya, I didn’t see your post or would have come along...
circumnavigating the lake. If you start on the south eastern side (from Jamieson park) heading west (towards Oxford falls), it's a single track which is almost completely flat except for some tree roots and a couple of small rocks. Ride for a bit until you hit a road (I'd have to consult my street directory to be more accurate, sorry) and a bit of open land. You then have to walk the bike over a little stream into the Cromer golf course (it's legal) and ride around the perimeter of the course and then into the Narrabeen Sports Centre.
From there you have to ride a bit of the Wakehurst parkway heading back towards Narrabeen, about 500m or so. Then you head into a dirt road on the left and ride up around a tributary of the lake, again it's single track. Walk up over a metal bridge which is only small. Then single track again until you get out into a picnic/park area. There's another bridge which goes back under the Wakehurst parkway for walkers which you can ride on, and the track then takes you through a little nature reserve with a few wooden bridges built into the path, another big open picnic area and a kids playground. You then head back onto the footpath for a bit and ride over the bridge on Narrabeen lake which joins Pittwater road and Wakehurst parkway and follow the footpath for walkers around the eastern side of the lake.
It's an easy ride, very pretty and serene. It took me an hour last night, peddling the whole way, no stops. Though I'm sure people could do it faster than that.
Sounds okay. But I think you left out the bit about the MX jumps and rock drop-offs
As I will try anything once (as I don't know any better), I would be happy to check it out this Sunday. Interested in a 9:00 a.m. start? Please post whatever fits with you.
Plus I am always up for a big breakfast after a ride.
Sunday morning. Sorry....gotta fit my first love of diving/snorkelling in. Had plans for that already. I can do any other time.. though I do tend to think, you either get in early or make it later. Gets a bit hot otherwise at this time of year. I could do another afternoon/early evening start. Normally, I'm a fan of breakfast too, which fits nicely with this ride because there are some cafes right on the edge of the lake. breakfast will have to be another time.

Okay, that only really leaves Sunday evening. Say 6:00 p.m? I can compromise my cricket viewing for a new ride. The Aussies will be sure to pound NZ anyway. Let me know your availability. Otherwise this will need to wait for next week.
NB - Oh Christine, your description of "it's really pretty and lovely..." is just not going to cut the mustard. The next thing you know, the group will be stopping off shopping for arts and crafts and the local fete, discussing our next 'trinket' purchase. Yechh!!
It IS very pretty - it goes all along beside the water - the loop without going to Dee Why is 10ks... but yes, maybe a better description could have been put up - see, I am missing Rob and his editing of my posts already!
He he.
Meet at Jamieson park:
Jamieson Park is at the end of The Esplanade. If you take Mactier St off Pittwater road you stay on that road and it becomes The Esplanade when you see the lake on your right. Follow the road and turn to the right when the road starts to go around to the left and uphill (that's Nioka Rd), you want to stay on the Esplanade with the lake next to you and you end up in a little carpark and picnic area right next to the lake.
Email me if you want a contact phone number or just show up.

Right, sounds good. Your directions look fine to me, so she'll be right mate. I'll get a Whereis map to take with me.
If I don't turn up on time, you are welcome to provide a verbal bashing by calling the mobi - 0438 885 410.
Cheers,
Liam.
(umm, yes that's my number, I am not playing a trick on you!!)
She is also trying to convince her husband Tony to come along...hmmm!!
I may also be there depending on hang over - fun party Saturday night!!
MEEEE
After last night's Terrey Hills ride...I feel duty bound to just point out again.....Narrabeen lake is flat, flat, flat. I hear you like the bumps and rocks and stuff. So just making sure you realise....you probably had never heard of it or been there because the average self-respecting mtb rider does not consider Narrabeen lake a trail ;-}. Just so you know. Especially because you're giving up your cricket. I don't wanna hear any whingeing.
Well, the grapevine is still performing I see. But I already guessed, thanks But that's okay. A rough and tough ride was never the point. Riding in a new area was. The riskier ride will enjoyed on Saturday.
Plus, I don't know the Narrebeen area that well - I am not much of a beach person. It will be good to see a new place.
See ya Sunday
Hi all, Just joined this place tonight, still quite a new guy at this bike thing, but enjoying it lots, and getting fitter too. I think even I could handle Narra Lakes (i'm just up the road).
If I get the guts up I might even drop along. I have been around both sides of Narrabeen Lakes but never knew you could meet them up, I'd be interested to learn that way.
Mike
I am working until 1630 on Sunday, but if I can make it on time my wife and I would like to join you for our first NobMob ride.
We have been riding for around 6 months now, mainly at Terry Hills and Manly Dam and we are getting a little better each time so I hope we wont hold any one up.
Looking forward to finally meeting people form the site.
Andrew
I would be interested in hearing more details of this Narra Lake loop as it could be a good one for beginners to have a crack at (like my other half - she is mighty scared of decents and rocks) and sounds like just a nice relaxing loop without the usual bish-bash-bosh. I've looked on online maps but there isn't much trail to see...
Narrabeen Lake map
Perhaps i will head down there Sunday morning instead of the Dam for a look see...(hmm or not)
Cheers,
for people who don't like rocks or hills! I did it the other week with a girlfriend and she hardly ever rides and had her two year old on the back of her bike.
Anyway, as newbies to nobmob you have to get out with us some time!!
MEEE
ps even my parents do that ride and they are not people who would be classified as exercise freaks!!! hee hee
That is a funny avertising banner on your webpage link. Is this a family website or what?
Where did you find his webpage link. Checked his profile and ain't nothing showing there but his e-mail address.
Open the picture of Narrabeen Lake that Starship posted, and you will see what I mean.
Webpage link? I think you might be refering to the banner thats found on the imageshack page i used to host the image in my previous post...sorry, not my page dude, its just imageshack. For some reason i've noticed they've been 'selling' themselves in that way recently. Bit strange but i guess when your one of the biggest free image hosters on the net you need to pay the bills somehow. ;p
Anyway back OT - sounds like my better half should be able to attempt this loop then. Might try and get down there sometime this weekend if the weather holds out (Sunday morning i'd say).
Cheers,
I emailed all of you a contact number (scroll down to check your inbox) if you want to come along on Sunday night. Please tell all the girls to come too.... it's dead easy this ride.

Hey everyone,
Even though it's a simple ride the company was very nice and I had a lot of fun. Hope we see Andrew, Karen and Mike again. Thanks for coming along.
Tanya, thanks for organising the ride. I enjoyed that, and it opened up some new possibilities for other rides. I will need to check out the Red Hill connection as well.
Andrew, a good ride out there later on today. Cheers for the company!! Once we got pushing, it turned out great.
Hope to see you all out on the trails again.
Hey all,
I looked at both of the Oxford Falls and Red Hill Google Earth maps. And they both seem to come within a few hundred metres of the western edge of the lake. Cool. It would be easy to connect either Red Hill or Oxford Falls to this ride.
Although, from the topography of the terrain, it would be best to finish at Narrabeen Lake, as it is more downhill to get there.
Cheers.
sorry to harrass you but check your inbox. ive been trying to get hold of you about the accom thing. thanks,
Gary
That was fun. I actually kept up. I was a little worried I would end up at the back in a sweating panting mess. Looking forward to getting better at this, as soon as I work out these 'gear' things.
See you next time.
Mike
Hi all
Thanks for the ride, we are going to have to join in on more of them.
Liam that second lap was great fun
Thanks
Andrew and Karen
Liam, you can join up from the lakes to red hill through the sports centre
also, you can go to oxford falls from the little bridge by the wakehurst parkway
sorry, had too big a night to come along yesterday!!
hope you all had fun, sounds like you all did!
MEEE
Yup, we had a pretty good hit out. Did two laps which really got the lungs going. The sweat was really pouring off at the end.
Yes, the rides all do connect up nicely, don't they? I think one day I will try a ride that connects all the dots together, so to speak, to finish at the far side of Narrabeen Lake. But I would need a trail buddy to park down at the Lake, so we can play shuttle pilot.
When you guys are ready for it you can join some of the more challenging rides.
Oxford Falls links up to Red Hill, via an interesting walk along the creek and then single trail through some interesting vegitation to the lagoon (complete with palm trees!) and yes it comes out right by the lake. From there you head up to the sport and rec for a fairly serious tarred hill climb onto the dirt tracks of Red Hill. If you started at Oxford Falls and have got down to the lake or Red Hill, you will have a nice long (and I mean long) hill back to the car via the road or you can take nursery rhymes back through the bush.
There are some good maps and pics on this site to give you a good idea of where things are at.
All these rides are doable once some fitness is attained. The fitness is to make sure you can ride/walk/climb for the duration of the ride. The first few times out on the more challenging rides will be slow but thats cool. Gotta start somewhere and dont want to break anything.
Keep an eye out for the noob rides and come along!!
Craig
Hey Craig,
I am ready for that ride anytime you are willing to suggest it chief!! The hill climb sounds like great fun. Is there a chair lift?
Plus, the ride through Red Hill will make it extra cool too. You get to fit in all the best rides in one day!
