Saturday 17th Feb - Oxford Falls at 8:00 a.m.
Hello all,
I am assembling an early morning crew for an assault on Oxford Falls. Did you want to enlist? This won't be one of those crazy 6:30 a.m. starts. But neither will we be turning up for a midday cruise.
The weather forecast (um, so far) is average to good. Anyone interested, please post your attendance. This includes you Peter!
Park in the usual dirt carpark on Morgan Road. Hope to see you all there.

...and what track?
MEEE
The time is in the title, 8:00 a.m.
I did not give the trails any thought yet, as it might be best to wait and see who is going first.
But I can always arrange some waterbars for you to jump off!
Hi all, NoBMoB newbie here.. When i ride, i usually keep it to familiar trails or even just head down trails i haven't been down before without any idea where they'll take me.. so it's great to come across a few maps of the local riding areas on here!
The Oxford Falls map looks to have some great trails on there.. i may have done some trails in that area though not sure where exactly (just headed up from some trails around Narra lakes and kept on exploring!)
I would like to join up with a couple of riders that know the area so as i don't always have to explore using the "lets see where this one goes" route..
I am wondering though, as i will be riding to the area (from Mona Vale), what is the best route to take? (i'm thinking Wakehurst, Deep Creek & Morgan Road Firetrail up to OxF start/finish... though would there be a less time and energy consuming route to get there by road? thereby saving what little energy i may have left for the trails?)
Is the Oxford Falls start/finish on the map the Morgan Road dirt carpark?
And if i am to make it to the 8:00am meeting place, when would be a good time to start riding?
Cheers for your help!
Hiya Soulrider,
You display a level of committment that is not often seen on these pages. So you intend to ride, ummm, to the ride? I bet the ride home must be a real killer. It must take a really long time. How do you have the spare energy to do that? With that level of energy and enthusiasm, you will end up good friends with Murray, our resident Man/Machine.
Instead, maybe there is someone that could give you a lift? Anyone?
If you ended up actually riding to Oxford Falls, I couldn't even make a guess as to how long that would take.
Hope to see you there!
Haha! The ride home isn't so bad.. it's always mostly downhill! It's the ride, to the ride, that is always the killer! up Mona Vale Road.. up tracks around Narrabeen lakes.. up McCarrs Creek.. you get the idea..
My spare energy isn't always that much, so i'm usally pretty cruisy on the trails.. unless it points down
I may just leave early, and make my way through the trails there.. for some reason i prefer to climb on trails than the road.. if don't make it in time i'll probably see a few of you on the "i wonder where this one goes" trail!
I used to do a similar thing, when I didn't have a car I'd have to ride from Balmian to the ferry in town then from the Manly ferry stop to the trails, then back again. Really makes you appreciate the trails (and the subsequent purchase of a car...) a bit more.
I don't think you'll find the pace too challenging once you get there either ;-}
Matt.
Now i think that's commitment! And yes, i now value a car and license so much more after not having one for so long now.. only a few months left... grrr..
I notice you don't think the pace will be too fast...humph! I have been working on my speed you know...hee hee!!! Ok so only i can notice the difference...
Soulrider, if you say you are going then people do wait for your arrival!!
MEEE
G'day
Anymore room for another newbie?
@ soulrider
I live at North Narrabeen and intend to ride up to Oxford falls as well. If you want to meet me at the Quix servo @6:45am we can ride up to Oxford Falls via the deep creek track?
god, going with you guys, i am getting nervous already...
G'day MTY, sounds good! Quix servo @6:45. Though after reading the Deep Creek track ride report on here, it almost sounds like a better to leave that track for the ride home. I checked the road map, and it maybe better idea to ride via Wakehurst, take the first road/trail turn-off to the right (just after cromer valley road on the left) which joins up to Oxford Falls Rd and Morgan Rd.. though hey, i don't mind trying the deep creek way.. off road is better than on..
Ha! Roid boys! Christine, I don't think you need to worry, I've got chicken legs, so by the time we make it up there, i'm sure the pace will be nice and cruisy..
Cool see you then.
Just so you know it's me, I ride a purple and green Trek hardtail.
Deep Creek is definetly more fun going the other way. We could always go in just after deep creek and take a short walk up the steep hill, and then ride the firetrail all the way to Oxford Falls? That'ld definetely be the quickest and most direct way there (and ultimately the easiest too).
Just the quick fix I need to get back on the bike with. Been in the UK for 10 days
Cya There
Evan
Sweet, no probs, i'll be on a blue dually. I don't mind which way we go at all. I'm always keen to improve my riding no matter what way the trail's pointing. I'm just not sure how fit i have to be to ride that route.. then join 'the others' for the real ride.. either way, i'm cool. We'll work it out when the time comes..
Hi Everyone
Thanks for the ride, I enjoyed riding with other people instead of just by myself for a change.
Did you guys go back around Deep Creek and have a look at that new track?
Yes, we rode all the way from Nursery Rhymes through Power Lines and the Morgan Road fire trail. Plus some single track through Deep Creek that I had not completed before. It was quite picturesque in fact, as it threaded it's way beside the creek all the way towards the Wakehurst Parkway and Narrabeen Lake. Reminiscent of a rainforest in terms of flora. Cool and moist, which was handy as it was very warm weather at that time of the day. But the track was quite slow and narrow in parts, with rocks and boulders littered about that you have to negotiate around. But certainly this was all still worth an explore. I thought it was well worth the trip.
I had wondered about this ride, and how to connect up Oxford Falls with Narrabeen Lake, and all the km's in between. Well, now I know! And thanks to the few who played guide for us that day.
And the ride out back along the Morgan Road fire trail (I think that is what we picked up on the way back) was a killer. That is a very steep section to have to hike your bike up. There was a lot of huffing and puffing there, including yours truly. I think Bruno the superdog was the only participant that negotiated the uphill section without a hernia. So lads, how are your legs today? Mine were pretty sore this morning.
Happy trails!
For reasons explained to MTY i wasn't able to meet at pre-detemined time, so unfortunately i was once again exploring solo (well almost). I mistook Deep Creek for Gutterball, and hiked my bike up there to Morgan Rd Firetrail (which was Killer! i'm guessing you guys did the same after the single track through Deep Creek?).
After making my way up to the carpark i met someone who was keen to explore like myself (first ride in the area). We found the XC course (we think it was the XC course, seems quite technical in sections and overgrown), and made our way along this track. We didn't really see many signs of recent use on the track, so we weren't too sure if it was the real XC course. Stupid me wasn't wearing gloves and took most of the skin off my knuckles as we plowed thru the very narrow and overgrown track. With only mainly non-technical trail experience, i was getting pretty worn out trying to negotiate all the technical sections without knowing the proper technique. So after making our way back to Morgan Road firetrail i headed back home. I missed the Deep Creek trail turnoff again, and made my way down Gutterball. Bit too gnarly for me in sections, especially when so worn out! Like you guys/girls, i wouldn't wanted to have left the climb up to Morgan Road carpark for the last part of the ride!
Did you people do the XC course? From my brief explanation (steep, rocky, technical in sections, narrow and overgrown everywhere), was this the XC course?
Both my derailleur's must've taken a beating because i only had about 4 out of 9 gears on the rear for the ride home, and only 2 that were working on the front!
We did some of the XC course at the start. But proceeded through it onto parts I had not been before. Most of it was therefore not on the main XC trail.
By the sound of it, you were on the XC trails. Some parts are very technical and particularly steep, and some are overgrown. They are all great fun!!
XC is now overgrown? Perhaps a tiny bit... but are you sure you didn't venture out to Little Moab, which is waaaaay overgrown? I mean, did you take a left just after winding through single trail for a Km or so and just after climbing up a short technical section of rock?
Sorry Liam I had to bail, my front hub decided to fall apart.
Catch you soon
Evan
Evan, there is nothing worse than an equipment failure. And, from what I hear, the ladies particularly hate it.
Anyway, so do you think you will be back in action shortly? Or is this bad enough to be a show stopper for a while?
Rob, the main group was on the far east side of the course, running through the downhill section next to Lizard Rock, Nursery Rhymes, and heading North East out towards Power Lines, Deep Creek and Narrabeen Lake. We generally were well away from the main XC trail.
Not sure what other ppl noticed on the other sections of the trail. Sorry, but I may have jumped in here if you were referring your q to Soulrider.
