Ourimbah - Sat 3 March

Ah-ha!
By popular request (erm, see, sat feb 3rd ourimbah/mooney mooney) let us partake in a little XC and DH fun at what seems to be everyone's favourite spot... Ourimbah State Forest!
When: Saturday, March 3 - 9am at the carpark and ready to ride (ie. if you need some time to fart about and adjust your gear, get there earlier).
Where: Red Hill Forest Road, Ourimbah (about 1hr North of Sydney).
What: Play by ear, but some XC and DH action sounds like the order of the day.
Ourimbah is tops, as most people know by now. It's probably not for the newbies or faint of heart, but well worth the trip if you are neither. Depending on who shows there may be grounds for a split group but the turn out here is usually tops and a social time is had by all. Bring some beers and nibbles for after the ride if you feel like it and we can sit around and debate the crashes (is Matt going to be back by then?) afterwards
Torrential rain could put a stop to this, but that's hardly likely is it?
See you there!

plan Rob!
I'll be there! 9am sharp
How was Japan??!!
Caro
Hi Rob,
Count me in, I cant wait to get back there. last time we all rode there I had so much fun I didnt want to leave.
Cheers
Bruce
I'll be back from EnZud by then so happy to stack wherever is most amusing. Just have to get it past the CEO of the kitchen, having missed Valentine's day... Though she's much happier now that I've actually decided to wear those pads that sit in my bag for every ride.
I'm doing a skills clinic in NZ this weekend so bring on the DH, (http://www.mtbskillsclinics.co.nz/oldsite/index.php) I'll put up a separate (no doubt patronising...) report on that if it warrants it.
See you all soon, Greg too hopefully?
Ta,
Matt.
PS - be thankful you're in the lucky country, if I hear another bro... I'll be saying it too.
every sentence in A, a Cous? Chew wat ya say about bro though, A?
Count me in for the 3rd March, don't think i have anything planned yet....In NZ at the moment and just rode in some of the local forests around Wanaka....man this place is SICK!
Queenstown tomorrow and Coronet Peak is calling.
See you all when I get back next week.
Keep safe and Ride HARD
Sam
im in for sure! cant wait!
That's it, that's all I have to say.
T
Count me in Rob.
Ourimbah is awesome
Evan
I will also be there.
Guess I got to do some "real mountain biking.."
if I expect to complete the dirtworks... ; P
The best place for it is Ourimbah....
See you all out there!
Shano
Sadly the Dirtworks will be nothing like Ourimbah, but it's all training so might as well do it someplace fun
FWIW - I will want to travel to the top of the DH at least once via Demtel hill, and perhaps a second time on the road. No - not in a car
Either way - see you there!
Mate, even the road climb that I did the last time was a killer. How else are you supposed to get up there? Helicopter?
... the force Ditty, use the Force
Im in for ourimba but ive just bought a specialized big hit so dont know what bike to take! Decisions, decisions! Doing this from my phone so its a bit hard!
Well I really can't understand the decision you have Gaz, as you have a ute so just take them both mate.
Easy! A new bike should always be taken for a bash through the downhill course!!
I will take both if i can lock one up in someones car? And forget what i said about pads in the past, ill be bringing my full face helmet and pads at least for the downhill bit!
Hi Gazza,
I will be taking my ute with a lockable hard cover on it, you are welcome to put your other bike in there if you like.
There is some history of bikes / stuff being stolen from cars when people are shuttling at ourimbah. So if your putting the bike in the ute just be careful.
He is already obsessed with the concept of his bike getting stolen!
bet you he only takes one now!!!
MEEE
about all I needed to do was head to Ourimbah and look for the ute with a hard cover to get a new bike but thought I was being paranoid thinking along those lines.
Pleased to see I'm not the only one.
Hi everyone,
I have spoken to some of you already about making a full day of our trip to Ourimbah. I am planning riding as planned in the morning then having some lunch & going out for a couple more laps in the afternoon, hoping to get atleast five laps in total.
Any one else interested?
P.S. maybe taking the second bike isnt such a good idea after all Gazza, your call.
Bruce, I may be able to hang around and do another XC lap or two, energy permitting! But I would not promise you anything. I am more thinking to save energy for doing the downhill course more than once. Anyway, we'll see..
Just wondering if planning to ride only the DH? I haven't ridden the DH course at Ourimbah...think my skills are probably limited to the XC track at this point. Is the XC track on the cards or only DH? 'S Ok if that's the case, I'll still come and ride the XC track...have done it a few times before.
Hi Tanya,
Planning to ride the xc track mostly, although some of the others will most likely be doing the down hill coarse.
Tanya, the DH course is pretty difficult. Plus it is a 25 minute uphill climb along a firetrail to get there. You may still be able to complete it, up and down, but it would not be easy.
Admittedly I have only ridden the DH course once, but I loved it and will make a point of doing it again when we are there next week. Just like the best bits of Red Hill. How many laps? Depends on who is there at that time and wants to do it. I will try not to embarrass myself, again, by stacking it there.
Bruce, I will commit to doing at least another lap of XC after lunch. But we can work out the details when we get there.
Morning + lunch + more riding at Ourimbah?
Yes indeed - as long as I'm back in Sydney around 6pm who cares!
FWIW, I will want to riding to the top of Demtel hill at least once, as the hill climb training is required. If we happen to go up to the top of the DH track then am happy to ride (most of) it - but won't be pushing this as the main idea.
well, count me in for the Ourimbah ride and the XC bit as well
Happy ride
Tien
hi, i am a newb to this site, but have been riding bikes for about 10 yrs now, i currently ride a 2002 Giant NRS1 and just got a new 2007 Giant Anthem 1. I live out in Quakers Hill (near Parklea markets) so i ride the oaks/andersons most often. I have been to Manly Dam once which i liked and will do again soon, i would like to ride in new places but am a bit hesitant to go to new places by myself. I would love to come along and meet some new people and have a bit of a tour around Ourimbah.
I will confirm later in the week though.
Cheers
Don
Hi Don,
I also live in Quakers Hill. It would be great if you could make it to Ourimbah, good chance to meet someone living close by, maybe we could organise to do some rides together.
hi bruce, thought i would be the only one out this way, especially in a group of mountain bikers based mainly around the northern beaches (i assume). Ourimbah is looking good at this stage, have clearance from the boss, i have to make sure i leave by midday though as i have stuff on in the alvo. Hope the weather is good. And yes open to hook up for rides, do you know any which can be ridden to? for local rides and training i just use the roadie but it squite boring, so would be good to find a local MTB ride that i could do.
Don
Mate, whenever there is a ride you think you want to be in on, just get in there and post your attendance. All comers are welcome. We can learn things from new riders.
I don't know much about rides out your way. Are there even any National Parks / Reserves? Maybe the Westwen Sydney MTB club has some details. Otherwise I don't have a clue. Others here may know more.
Cheers,
Liam.
thanks Liam,
there are some places that i want to go to so will be joining rides in the future.
Don
Did someone say, "Logistics"?
Anyone want to meet up for the drive there and back? In Theory the Fozzer can carry 5 riders + bikes, but in practice 3-4 is the max. Will be heading from St Leonards up the Pacific Highway then freeway of course.
Any takers along the way? Or anyone coming from South over the bridge that wants to swing by there and meet up?
Only proviso is that I don't have any particular time to head home so will want to hang around quiet a while if the day is nice.
Hey all,
I had intended to drive myself there. But if someone wants the company I would be happy to come along with someone else. I could bring along some great Rammstein CD's. I live in Hornsby, which generally means I would be on the way for most.
Likewise to Rob, I don't have any other plans that day, so would probably be hanging around after lunch to do more riding.
Anyway, just throwing the idea out there. : )
I am comming from Randwick over the bridge and am happy to drive up together. My car only fits one other person incl. bike, but am happy to leave it and get a lift with you Rob. Even though Stuart recommends to get a good life insurance first
.
. Where would be a good place to meet, somewhere between the bridge and Hornsby?
Only requirement is to stay for quite a while after lunch for more laps, exploring and maybe a bit of downhill
Caro
OK, so how about this for a plan?
Caro, swing by my place in St Leonards (will PM you details). We'll go in my car an pick up Ditty on the way (he needs to PM me details - erm - how far from the freeway start are you?). We can all sit and talk crap in comfort, and save loads of $$$ on petrol
Erm, sorry Ditty - no Rammstein though - it might clash with my Kylie collection. Can we listen to Mix 106 instead?
P.S. Clearly that Mix 106 part is a joke!
Hello Everyone!
Just found out that Saturday would be a good ride day in my schedule, someone else cancelled out on me.
However, if someone could give me a lit, that would grrreat *pleeeeease*
I live in Randwick, but am Happy to meet you anywhere near a trainline and supply the driver with coffee etc
The offer of the lift would be great, thanks! So a PM has been sent. The plan seems to be a good one. You all have my mobi.
Rob, it is interesting the way you call Mix 106 the joke, but Kylie was never re-mentioned. It sounds like you have been to too many Impossible Princess concerts. Mate, I think we need to talk. It sounds like you need to get yourself sorted out.
Come on Ditty, you love Kylie, don't you?
See you at yours, around 7:45-8-ish
I'm in - and I have organised myself some transport.
See you guys then - it will be an awesome day!
Flo
Hey all,
I will be coming up for the experience.
Anyone need a lift or want company?
I am at Belrose.
Craig
hi all, couple of questions, how long is the drive from the start of the freeway at Hornsby? and also is the parking area easy to find along red hill forrest rd?
Thanks
Don
If you leave 45min from the start of Sydney/Newcastle Freeway in Hornsby you'll probably be good.
Tell Whereis or Gmaps you want to goto, "Red Hill Road, Ourimbah, NSW" and you won't got far wrong.
You come over the brow of a hill and the turning is 100m on your left. Drive 1-200m up there and there's a clearing - they'll be loads of cars parked.
This is going to be massive! Can't wait to hit the trails.
I'll try to remember to bring something to eat, seeing we will be there for lunch. Or do they have a-la-carte dining service there?
Hey Rob...can we meet at the start of the freeway and travel together?
Let me know roughly what time you'll be there.
Craig
i am looking forward to meeting up with everyone and going for a spin around ourimbah.
Hope the weather is good to us
Don
Ooooh... look at the Ourimbah ride page.
See that link under 'Meeting Place'? Fill in your home address on your profile (it's under 'Who you are') and automagically get directions.
Have put in the meet for this and Manly Dam just for testing - will do the rest later.
You like?
Its been too long off the bike for me, almost 3 weeks and i havent riden with you guys for ages so count me in
So I've got my bike back after Wednesday's Terrey Hills ride; $60 for the fork repair, $70 for new brake pads. Hooray!
I'm still a maybe for the ride tomorrow. Are there enough people going to justify a 'noob group' that is going to go relatively slowly and not try to kill themselves on the descents?
Well.
The fork is running beautifully. It's a pleasure to jump on it and see it spring back solidly.
The brakes are utterly rooted. I've spent the last three hours arguing with them and will now need to bleed the fronts and buy another set of pads.
Don't buy BBB pads for Juicy 5's. They don't fit.
Grr.
Won't be there tomorrow (today).
