Heath Track Cascades

Committing the google map of this trail from nobmob to memory (hah), I set off to find the single track and downhill technical near the Ralston Rd entrance.

At the top of the heath track, between it and the single track on google there is a nice downhill that has a few trails funneling into one trail that heads down the valley off a long rock shelf. A lot of work (a little too much) has gone into this trail with pallets etc down some drop-offs. At the bottom of the last drop-off, the trail suddenly ends. There a a few very overgrown trails that continue along near the creek bed but I thought they may have been animal trails and so didn't venture too far.

I climbed all the way back up the trail to eventually get to the top again and then along further to find the single track and then join the longer downhill (that is one excellent track!!!!) and eventually to the bare creek track emerging between the quarry track and lower cambourne junction.

Does anyone know if this first downhill joins the heath track? Riding down the creek bed seemed the only real option. Odd that such a well defined track seemed to end nowhere with a steep climb (walk!) out back up the trail!

Cheers Daz.

I can't speak for this track in particular, but remember that a lot of singletracks are made by kids in the school holidays.

They build them without a significant amount of surveying. They tend to get bored after a while, or need to go back to school, or find difficult terrain - leaving the tracks unfinished.

I too have sussed out that track- yes goes nowhere!

However, if you go passed that half made trail and head down to the XC loop at the far end your in for a great surprise. 100m or so into the clockwise XC loop is a left hand turn. This single trail, for mine is the best most demanding 20 mins of downhill single trail this side of Tasmania. Its not much talked about in these parts as many simple folk have failed to return.

I mastered my craft on that technical downhill section, having once done it after a heavy down poor it was like riding a swollen creek, which by the way does lead back onto the Heath fire trail.

I'd be only to happy to lead the willing and able there one day, but it isn't for newbie’s unless their happy to do a bit of trekking, except for that new lass call Caro (odd name?) who was seen in the Ourimbah wilderness performing drop-offs and roll-overs far beyond her experience should permit. Time for drug testing I think! Eye-wink

Enough stories for one night.

pikey! (and you are talking about odd names???? Smiling
Haven't been to Cascades at all yet, sounds interesting. Will make sure Greg will teach me what I need for the rest of the downhill on Sunday!

Good night!
