I'm pretty keen for this. The more DW training the better! Elvina is pretty short (I used to live in Elvina Bay). It's flat to downhill (steep) and then a good climb back out.
Isn't cheerleader practice on wednesday nights???
Hey I just mapped the route below because I had no idea on the distance and its looking about 30km. Check out the elevation although it doesn't seem quite right
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/DW-Training
wrong. It has you dropping down to sea level twice between 9 and 11km and this, according to the route player, is when you are on the road approaching Salvation and also on Salvation, close to the highest areas on that route.
If you want the extra distance and elevation, turn around at the west end of centre and do centre and duck in reverse to finish off
Well - here's Waratah + Elvina alone:
Distance: 15.30 km
Elevation Gain: 421 m
And we all know DH+C from the shops is:
Distance: 13.83 km
Elevation Gain: 253 m
And it's 1.3km, (maybe 30m?) one way from the junction to Elvina, so your grand total will be:
Distance: 31.73 km
Elevation Gain: 700 m (ish)
That looks a bit better. We will see how we are feeling and going for time and the end of centre but I very much doubt it
I get 30.55km from bikeroutetoaster which sounds right.
Elevation though is 388m which sounds wrong also. Rob's estimation sounds most accurate!
Anyway I've saved it as a Garmin course so we can follow that tonight and see what happens
So this ride has a bit of road riding in it? Just wondering if I should replace my knobbly AM tyres with some faster rolling 2.1s?
It does have a bit of road (about 9km) which can't be avoided for these tracks
Best to save my soft compound tyres then and put on my 2.1s.
Great ride tonight guys and good pace. Never been down Elvina, just crazy . One mechanical so the time stopped was pretty good. Below is the profile. See you Thursday at the dam.
PS. Rob, your estimates on distance & elevation were pretty much spot on.
