ayup vs magicshine?
i already have custom lights which i'm very happy with and have a custom helmet mount and just like to keep them on my helmet. I use my first generation ayup lights for road riding but find they're not quite bright enough when going at speed along dark roads. I've been looking at getting some magicshine's for my bars but seeing as i've got 5 ayup batteries and bar mounts on all my bikes plus head straps for camping i was toying with the idea of just upgrading the ayup itself to the current model. Anyone got any info on how much brighter the new models are compared to the old ones? Excuse the way i've written this but its been done from my mobile. Thank's gazza,

and you are going faster than light!
Hi Gazza,
If I'm going out for a decent night ride, I run 2 sets of Ayups on my bars, narrow and intermediate. I just thread 2 mounts on the same cable ties and run mount above the other, like when I'm racing off road.
These aren't the latest and greatest (which I understand are only about 10-20% brighter), but they are pretty good.
2 * 3hr batteries don't weigh much, and it's a cheap option since I've got the lights.

Hi,
I use a custom 4 led set up (similar to a HID tech quad) very bright, all parts obtained from cutter electronics, I run this on the bars and I also have a magic shine for the helmet.
I run both on low beam with plenty of light, the run time on low is in excesses of 20 hours for the my custom (haven't had the magic shine long but on low I get around 6 to 8 1+ hour rides)
If you know the voltage out put of the ayup batteries (I think it is 7.4 volts??) you could use them to power up a new magic shine. The voltage required for a magic shine is 7.4 volts.
My brother has the new AYUPS the bar mount intermediate is a little on the dull side but the spot on the helmet is excellent. I get more light from my custom and magic shine but the AYUPS are a lot better with the mounting and weight advantages. If I had a spare $500ish clams I would get a set.
Hope this helps?
if the batteries do work on both then i'll go the magicshine. i just want a bit more light with as little expense as possible. as i said. it's just for road training and would never replace my super powerfull custom beauties that i use for off road!
