rocky trail enduro awaba
hey,
im a new newbie, and i want to enter a race, i was thinking about the rocky trail 4 hr enduro at awaba, but ive never ridden there. Is this a good choice for a first race? is the track very technical? Also due to work commitments & weather i cant get on trails every day though i do try ride on the road at least 3-4x/week for at bout an hr and hit he trails on weekends when i can, would i need to do more trail training to pull off the enduro at awaba? (skill wise im at a level were i can get over rocks roots and smaller logs (still working on getting higher lift of my back wheel, n better weight shifting for the bigger things...) and small drops if theres nothing int he way to complicate landing
or is yellomundee a better or worse choice of track?
cheers nicole

for sure - we will put something up so you can find it. Look out for the yellow Rocky Trail signs.
Awesome, that pinch is killer!!!
Man... What an awesome day!!!
Sleeping in the car was warmer than my own house, the bike was perfect, my quads didn't want to play. But had an awesome day!
It was great to put a few faces to a few names. Also, well done to those that stepped up onto the podium, and to those that were juuust pipped to it. So close...
Also, Massive thanks to Smiley, for his never ending words of encouragment as I rode past him! Top job mate!
Just checked my calender, and I won't be able to make the second one due to doing the Streetcommodores Cruise for Charity (raises money for the Starlight foundation) as my car is booked in for the feature car display (see avatar). But I'll definitely be going to the other two events later in the year.

If you want to ride I will be happy to take the car for a cruise
Glad it was a good day. I'll have to get off my butt and start riding more.
HAHAHHA
Ummmm, yep, thought about that long enough. hahah
There's possibly a spare spot in the car if you want to join us Sim? I've got priority parking at the destination. lol
Yes, that was a fantastic day. Great track and great event - thanks go to Martin and the crew. Racing doesn't get much better than this.
Only thing that spolit it for me was a some arsey comments from a couple of the top riders when I didn't move over. One of them expected me to move over without any prompting and another made a comment when I didn't move over soon enough because I was tackling a fast flowing section where it wasn't safe to do so (or do they expect me to pull over and stop everytime somebody wants to overtake?). Yes I know you are racing at the pointy end but your behaviour is at complete odds with everyone else out there.
Yes awesome event.
I actually found the guys at the front very polite and patient considering you could go a good couple of hundred meters without any opportunity to overtake. It seemed to be the wannabees that thought they were the next Craig Gordon that were totally impatient and took risk.
At one stage I was about 10th in line of a bunch totally nose to tail on single track when some schmuck got impatient and threw himself off the scenery to get 2 places ahead of me where he stayed for about 3km...
I remember 1 young kid calling out "right" about 3 times on the tightest part of the course where the trees were inches from my bars. Finally I said "sure mate, you just go down the right through those trees while I keep pedaling along this narrow road".
The track was great especially the new section that seemed like someone had turned the lights out as we rode in a mini tropical forest. The only problem was the whole course was so tight & twisty that you had to almost stop to take a sip of drink.
Well done to Rocky Trail.
I have to agree, the major majority of the riders at the pointy end were awesome! Quite a number of them would offer comments of support and encouragement. Generally an extremely fun and positive vibe through the whole day, though a few times I almost collided with a few riders as they tried to cut past without saying anything. I simply said, "Hey, if you wanna pass, just say something..." To which a lot replied, oh yeah. In recognition.lol
One guy in particular came up behind a couple of us that were riding, I was very alert to riders coming up behind me, as soon as they were close enough (not to pass, but close to me in general) I'd call out and say, when you're ready let me know and I'll move for you. This is something i did to every rider that came up behind me (and there were quite a few... LOL). The bloke behind me replied, nah, you're going sweet. Keep going. So I kept pedalling, but this third guy that just got onto the back of us. Said, "Are you going to move over or what???" I found a safe spot in the rough and moved over asap. I would've been fine with that, but as he went past he had the gaul to say, "God, about time!" It wouldn't have been 100m. I was so roapable!!! But I soon forgot about it, as my inner quad cramped up again.... LOL
I totally forgot about that incident until these last replies reminded me. That's how good the event was!
My first MTB event. I had an awesome time.
Well set up and organised. I found all the riders on and off the track to be friendly and courteous including the guns. I reckon they showed great patience considering how close their race was.
I had a mechanical and broke my chain, so hugh thanks to Nigel who stopped and lent a hand. The mechanics at the start area super helpful and efficent. They charged a very reasonable rate too, considering the location and without them my race would have been finished on the first lap.
All up fantastic experience, Mountain bikers are a top bunch of people. I can't wait till the next one.
Thanks
rider briefing riders are supposed to call track or pull over when you can , if a rider is abusive or impatient slow them down enuff to take there number & report them , we all go out there for a reason in a friendly way not too cause harm too each other & we all started riding the same as they did when they started . Lucky nobody did that to me while I was sweeping they might have walked back . lol
Had a chat to Martin today as he was getting ready to leave. He seemed pretty happy with the race.
Didn't appear to be any rubbish in the carpark or on the trail which was great to see as well.
Wish I could have raced it.
Because we did 2 laps today and cleaned it all
But even clean up laps were a lot of fun and there wasn't a lot of rubbish out on the track.
We really enjoyed the race and are working on results and photos now.
Thanks all for coming and racing with us - we really enjoyed it! Can't wait to see you all back at Dargle in a month's time.
