Northern Beaches ride

I want to get a few k's up to see if I am up to competing in the Fling.
My plan is to ride Red Hill up through Oxford Falls through Cascades over to Terry Hills down through Narrabeen to complete a big loop - legs and lungs permitting.
Just seeing if anyone would be interested if, so I will post a ride.

Thats a pretty decent ride! How many k's you planning on doing?

CROMERBOY's picture

According to Google earth its about 50-60ks

myself and a few others are planning on a long Terry Hills ride on Sunday as well, as another option for the same reason as you.

Also keen to see what sort of shape I am in for the Fling and am going on a similar ride on Saturday morning with a mate. Starting at Cascades, up to Wildflower Garden, across to Terrey Hills (Long, Perimeter, Centre and Duck Holes), down Powderworks Road to Narrabeen Lakes and along Slippery Dip and Morgan Road at Oxford Falls and back to Belrose. It is about 65km all up, hoping for an ok pace but mainly just want to limit stops.

I think this is what Logan is planning:

Be sure to make everyone go down Elvina Sticking out tongue

You could quite easily carry on West after doing Long trail and circumnavigate Duffy's Forest, a bit like we started here but then turned round due to someone's dodgy knees Eye-wink

If you were feeling good though, one could throw in Ryland, track behind the gun club/wildflower garden, go up to Phillip Rd and over to Warrimoo if you wanted to then back via the Mona Vale road sniggle, go over to Cascades if you wanted, etc. Such a ride would be a monster!

Here's the Warrimoo/Cascades/Ryland part of that:

Sounds like a great ride. I need to smash out a few 'pre Fling km's' as well. What day are you planning to ride and what time are you departing ?

CROMERBOY's picture

Thinking Saturay morning - out early and home for lunch.

daveh's picture

Any plans for this as yet? We are definitely on and definitely out early Saturday morning. Same deal as yourself, aiming to start early, get in a good, long ride and be home for (maybe late!) lunch. Hopefully miss the storm that is supposed to pass through midday/later in the afternoon!

For no reason other than getting those hills out of the way whilst fresh, looking to start at Cascades and go clockwise.

Hi Dave - I'm def up for Sat, looks like we are doing the exact same ride less Red Hill.
Why don't we hook up and do the ride together - I'm paranoid about snakes!

I am sure you are 100 times fitter than me so need someone to keep me moving! Thinking early, 7:30 AM or so?

CROMERBOY's picture

Nah - went out on the road bike on Sunday and found out how fit I wasn't! I desperately needed a nanna nap after riding. Thus my concerns about the Fling. I was kind of hoping fitness would sort of just happen to me or I would catch it - but I am still waiting.
7.30am is very civilised
Meet at Ralston?

daveh's picture

I'll post a ride, there might be some other suckers keen to show off how fit they are not. Bring your map, I got lost in Cascades last (and only) time I rode there!

CROMERBOY's picture

Lost at Cascades? - too funny - does this mean there may be more k's then anticipated?
If I get a chance I will try and plot your route onto my GPS - but I will throw in maps to be on the safe side!

Supposed to come out at St Ives, ended up coming out at Davidson! Ride posted, http://nobmob.com/node/17791.

Going out with NSCC on Sat morning for some scumming.

If the weather forecast is correct the tracks are going to be wet on Sunday. Not good for the new bike.

I remain optimistic though!
