Kids rides
Hi all,
My son is 5 and a half and loves riding "bush tracks", we regularly ride Jameson Park around Narrabeen Lake although he is getting bored with that one. He hit up the BMX track at Del Rio while I was racing at Wisemans a few weeks ago and loved it, he's got safety gear. Does anyone have any ideas of what tracks I can take him on that won't bust him up ?? I ride Manly Dam twice a week and he;s not ready for that...
Thx

Isn't bad at all. It's up behind the RFS station on Mona Vale road
15km for the whole loop including Centre Track - probably a bit long for the whole ride for a 5yo. Maybe get the misssus to pick the youngster up at the bottom of Duck Holes.
The Bairne Track out and back is by far the easiest ride in the area.
@Hawkeye - not sure I'd recommend a beginner ride down Duck Hole!
We are building a pump track at Northbridge it should be finished by mid to end of week (8th Oct), hopefully.
Sailors Bay Rd, Northbridge (opposite Bonds corner just past golf course entrance)
This track is purpose built to cater for riders of varying skill levels, from kids on their 1st bike to advanced riders.
That in mind, there is so many lines to take that the littlies will be able to ride it safely & have heaps of fun.
Ill be taking my 6 year old son & his friends there regularly & i'll be hitting it up to boost my skill once it's finished.
Check below for updates & finishing date

Probably right
The fire trail out along the ridge from the park gates on Bobbin Head Rd is pretty good for young tackers. Depending on how he is going, you can try some of the descent as well. From the gates to the top of the descent and back is about 6km, side trip on the Jacob track is an extra 1.6 km return and is also pretty flat.
Lach – I think you mean Centre track?
I have often done Centre track over the last year with my now just 6 yr old. Great length for him, plus the descents are fine and need to pick a line but not too bad if off it. Plus then a visit to the BMX track on the way back for a few jumps – scared me senseless watching him the first time he hit up the first jump – no idea of speed or flight! Lots of nose first landings, but he is keen for a full face helmet so he can in, his own words, ‘go hard!’ He also likes to chant the first rule of (kids) MTB – momentum is your friend.
I was actually thinking of the park gates on Bobbin Head Rd at Turramurra. Details are under "Bobbin Head" on the rides list, I think (dunno how to put those fancy nodes into a reply).
If he can cope OK with the Centre Track, he'll probably find the Bobbin Head fire trail a bit tame going out along the ridge until the downhill - it has a few water bars in the top half and is a bit eroded towards the bottom. Only problem with the downhill bit is having to ride back out - not much fun for a 6 yr old, especially if he has no gears.
Unless you can carry two bikes down the 200m or so of steep walking track to the boathouse and have someone drive in and pick you up
Here are a few I can think of:
UP NORTHERN SYDNEY
Bobbin Head Track (FT) (mentioned above): http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl...
Gibberagong Track (FT. My 2 year olds ride ballance bikes here): http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl...
1/4 Sessions Rd (Legal Little kids track with jumps/rollovers/berms etc, pretty crappy but maybe he likes this stuff): http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl...
Hopeville Park (Legal Little kids track with jumps/rollovers/berms etc, pretty crappy but maybe he likes this stuff): http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl...
Reddy Park (gentle slope single track loop for little kids. My 2 year olds ride balance bikes here) http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl...
CENTRAL SYDNEY
Homebush: (4X and BMX): http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl... BMX track not yet in googlemaps
SOUTHERN SYDNEY
Lady Carrington Drive (FT): http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl...
Also near just off Bobbin Head Rd (Legal Single Track in Council land built in coordination with TORC): Trail starts at off fire trail just as you enter fire trail from McRae Place and heads north. See logs on your right ground before FT heads downhill to the left. Very child friendly as it is very flat and non-technical. There are two bits to look out for, and two very mushy bits that should be fixed: http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl...
Sounds like he could be readu for a little racing himself! WSMTB has kid's races on a short track before each of the club races at YRP. See www.wsmtb.com

Long track in Terrey Hills is pretty good for kids. Park at the end of Cullamine Rd, a short way along Perimeter, and then left onto Long. It's about 5kms each way with mostly gentle ups and downs, only one short steep hill, and a nice view at the end.
