Manly Dam best lap time??

Just wondering how many riders actually time their laps of the dam ???? If so what is a good or bad time to get around the Dam????

Ah... you need to refer to the Hot Laps page Smiling

This is a mostly forgotten page - someone needs to take the challenge to Matt. Some of us (ahem!) need to go non-stop more often Eye-wink

And I need to up the ante myself, it's too long since I bettered that time.

Maybe I can give it a go on the new hardtail... A cheap DMR frame from Phantom and a bucket of spare parts!

I now have a surplus fairly old Kona Dawg frame looking for a new owner, if anyone wants it let me know, I don't really want anything for it so offer to swap me something interesting! Don't all rush at once. If anyone has a nice pair of rigid forks with disc mounts to swap then it's yours.

Ta,
Matt.

Hey Matt,
sounds like your putting a cool play bike together, full ridged with disc brakes, nice.
Whats next single speed?

Arr got it HOT LAPS SECTION

That Matt dood is on fire. 34 min lap time is insane! My best was 38m 14 sec at the peak of my fitness. Would take me 6 months to get back to that level again! I can generally do 39 something, but there aint much left at the end!!

Edit.

Knocked off early today 2.30pm and did a lap. 38min 4 sec. I am fitter than I thought. Not bad for a 41 YO dodgy fella!!

Nice one - have updated Hot Laps.

Is right. A nice steel frame, makes a lovely noise when you whack it! Not quite fully rigid, an old pair of Marzocchi's on the front but if I could get a pair of rigid forks I'd probably give it a go. It's really for giving the technical skills a good go and riding in the city/parks etc. I don't buy the whole singlespeed thing though, why you would do away with a perfectly good set of gears is beyond me. (...bite?...)

HELLO!!!!

Perhaps you could explain why somebody would do away with a perfectly good GRANNY gear?????

You'll come around eventually.

Peter dropped Bruno off at my house last night as he is going away and during the conversation he said that he did a lap of Manly Dam this week in 35mins - BUT that did include a couple of chat stops...!!!
I said I would post it on his behalf!

The logic goes:

- Chainline's not such an issue that you can't use your biggest rear cog with the middle ring
- Having no granny encourages you to use more of your rear cassette and even out the wear (contentious...)
- Any smaller ratio than that (middle/1st) and it's just as fast to walk
- Walking up stupid hills gives my old man back a bit of a rest every now and again
- I have no pride left when it comes to walking up those hills
- Chainsets look much better without the lil fella!

QED, it has to go...

Plus a 2x9 setup gives you a good exuse to lash out and buy a set of Middleburn RS8 Duo Cranks (which are almost as nice as their Uno Cranks Eye-wink )

Matt's picture

Middleburn don't do cranks for external BB's, they do look good though, kind of old skool.

......That i'm trying hard to stay in second cog. Its only the very steep inclines that I resort to the Granny.

only more time in the saddle will help me leave the granny behind

After 3 weeks of the flu I am finally feeling human again. Aboard my new Prophet (4 weeks old), I managed to beat my old time of 38m 4 sec today Sun 8.30 am 27/5 to post a 37min 26 sec lap of the Dam. Anthony, Joe and Lana present to witness. I am thinking this is about my limit for an average of once a week outing!! Keep pushing yourself guys and girls, its amazing what you can do if you push your limits!!!

Chris.

Wed 30/5/07 decided to go for a lunch time ride Dam 1.30pm and clocked 36m 49s. This is my best time so far. I did not think I could crack 37min riding on average once a week. I did ride twice this week though and the results obviously show. Keep pushing yourself boys and girls! Anything is possible.

Matt don't panic. I will never do 34mins!!

Rob can you update my HOT LAP to 36m 49s please!!!!!

Chris
