Phone sports tracker apps

Just wondered which app (if any) you use while out on your bike and what phone you're using.

I have a Galaxy S (droid 2.2) and use Endomondo. It's reasonably accurate, reliable and the onlonline part is very comprehensive.

I tried run keeper but it kept dropping signal and just didn't work very well. Friends who have iphones don't seem to have a problem with it though.

I have an app called 'I am safe' on my iPhone. While not exactly what you are referring to, it is good for riders to have. Basically you set it up with 5 of your mates email addresses and phone numbers. If you find yourself in an emergency situation all you do is touch the icon and rest.

It sends an SMS and email to your 5 friends basically telling them it is an emergency and gives a link so your location launches on google maps.

I bought the app a while ago as I often train late at night in the forest alone and have the strangest stacks. It's scary that I know the X-ray staff at the SAN knock off at midnight and my wife has had to get me from Manly Dam or Lane Cove NP at 11pm and get me to Wahroonga so my broken ribs or fingers can be x-rayed or else I lay in pain till the morning.

Anyway, my app has actually been used only once. Last week my 2yr old came into our bed at 4am and was full of beans so I gave her my phone to look at photos which she loves. Soon after calls started coming in from mates and my parents ...

Currently using an iPhone app caled cyclemaster, have only done two rides with it and it has heaps of options, maps, graphs etc, i think it was $5.00. Was using an iPhone app called trails (free) did plenty of rides with that one although sometimes it would either drop out or the screen must of got bumped in my camelbak and it stopped during the ride. What a pain !!

I like the "i am safe" app suggested from Fatbot that seems a must have for all of us. thanx vm.

Hi, I use Sports Tracker Live I really like it coz' actually I used to had Endomondo but when I bought my Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor with Endomondo the only info that I can get from it was average and Max, with the Sports Tracker Live you have a lot of graphics (Time vs Speed/HR/Altitude). I have a HTC Desire HD

I now use Endomondo as well but also have Log Your Run (iPhone). Whilst Log Your Run is pretty accurate the internet site is overly complicated. I like the simplicity of Endomondo but I don't think it's as accurate as Log Your Run. I've just purchased a Garmin 500, which you can also import, information into Endomondo.

To Fatboy, the SAN is awesome and welcomes all MTB's with open arms though we hope you’re not too seriously hurt... Yep, I'm one of the x-ray dudes or Radiographers as we're known collectively!

Use to use my iPhone but after scraticg, getting dirt in it, not be able to see progress during a ride etc went with a Garmin Edge 500.

Yeah it's expensive but an iPhone is more so if you kill it on a ride!

Hey xray dude. SAN is great. No matter where I'm injured I always try to drag myself there as you always get in quickly courtesy of their pay cash policy and service is great.

I believe Google have an app called My Tracks for Android.
Allows you to upload directly to your My Maps in your google account.

The GPS issue is probably due to the crappy GPS in the Galaxy S. I have one and it does take a while to lock on and loses lock fairly easily.

Hi I use endomondo on my HTC windows 7 phone and its awesome. Its the least expensive option versus going out and buying a garmin device. Its accurate and keeps track of your activities live on their website and can auto update facebook etc.

Big vote for Endomondo.

EveryTrail is OK although I havent used it much. They have a Pro version which does other stuff, havent looked into what else it does.

I use OruxMaps (see this post http://nobmob.com/node/19099#comment-58463) because you can load maps into it for use when you dont have internet access and can be handy to use if you get lost. It also has the ability to record tracks.

(Desire HD)

Personally i use an old nokia phone with their sports tracker app just so I dont waste the battery on my phone if I need it.

Also, seeing as most of these smartphones use AGPS and low power chips if you get into an area with not very good coverage your gps accuracy will be affected.

I got my app ages ago. From memory they give you a login to their website and you enter your 5 friends details there rather than on the iPhone.
