You are hereCalendar / THE MONT - do you need some practice??
THE MONT - do you need some practice??
Majura Pines
Hey you!
You look like you need a practice ride around Majura Pines before completing The Mont 24hr. So here you go...
This will be especially useful for those that have never been to Majura before. This will let you get used to the feel of the place. And with good reason too... Majura is totally awesome!! It will take some serious discipline on race day to not stop on your lap and do the jumps and roll offs.
I propose that we have a mid morning Saturday ride, so we have time to drive down early on Saturday morning. Then we can make a call about whether an overnight stay is required for a Sunday ride. At this stage, I wanted to leave late Saturday afternoon open, so people could complete their practice ride and simply drive back home. Anyone for some car pooling action??
The drive is about 3 hours once you turn off the M7 and use the Hume Hwy exit at Prestons, Campbelltown. All up, one way travel will be about 3.5 hours.
So, come along and get in your k's before the big day. Happy trails!
Were you there and have a story to tell?

I would have thought it was a must given the race you are supposedly going down to suss things out for is a 24hr event, hence the reason the Canberra accom Rob. (That said I'm still a skecthy starter at this point)
I'd have to agree with Caro on this one, plus the drive from CNB to Wingello shouldnt take that long.
Canberra or Bundanoon?
I need to book accommodation soon
Don't mind camping, at Majura for the night(Saturday night)for the night ride then drive to Bundanoon for Wingello ride before home (Sunday day)
A bit more than 2 weeks to go!!!
Tien
Rob, you can leave out the romantic getaway locale's to another trip mate!
My vote is for the bungalows in the Carotel Motel in Canberra. Thanks for the prompting Tien. This motel is a cheaper alternative. But is easy to organise for a larger group, is easy to get to, and is only a few km's drive from Majura.
Post your preference asap. We'll look at making a booking in the next couple of days.
Thanks!
We stayed at the Carotel a couple of weeks ago & found it to be good value. It was very basic, but clean & comfortable.
Vote for a Carotel bungalow here too then.
If we can't all fit then camping is an option for me also.
Is Ditty is booking it up?
Carotel it is.
I will book it up today or tomorrow. Then post some details in a day or two regarding cost. You'll all be pleased, it will make the weekend dirt cheap for all.
Cheers.
As above
The family rooms we stayed in a few weeks ago can fit three or four per suite. There is a double and a single in the bedroom and then two pull out beds in the lounge. If we bunk up, its very reasonable at $120 per suite.
I'm with Rob on this one will stay there but happy to camp also.
....and by the way, Rob snores
Anon
I snore?! You cheeky *%^$*!
You should try sharing a room with Steve or Pikey, thought I'd been transported to the plains of Africa and was sleeping with a herd of wildebeest or something!
Hello all.
Thanks Sandy for the info about the suites. I went and looked some of that stuff up. So, time to book...
I have 21 people down as attending Majura AND needing accomodation. I intend to get something like a large bungalow that will cost about $20 each. The group is:
Liam
Bruce
Rob
Caro
Andrew L
Christine
Tanya
Evan
Gazza (you in still mate?)
Steve
Shaun
Shaun #2
Sandy
Stuart M (tentative)
Simon
Andy B
Craig S
Lee
Tien
Pikey
Nate
I intend to book this tonight... seems that we have a general agreement as to the type of accommodation, and cost, that we are after. I'll go for the family bungalow (seats 5) or large bungalow (seats 10) to keep things cheap and easy. We can work out final arrangements on the day.
If anyone has any last moment problems with this, please let me know asap.
Thank you.
Geeze... that's a lot of snoozing riders. Can someone in the building game bring some earplugs along please?
Will bring a hand full.
By Simon you do mean me dont you?
This has got to be the first time i've been confused about my own name....nice work liam
Sorry mate, sent you a pm the other day but you must not have seen it. Can't go.
At this rate I will have two bikes for sale soon, plus a wad of lightweight spares still in their boxes
Alright, we are all booked in.
There is now a booking of 2 large bungalows, costing $100 each for the Saturday night. Meaning with the 20 (approx) ppl we have going, this whould work out at about $10 each for accom. Nice!
For those that can't stay the night... no dramas. We'll just split the cost amongst those that stay the night, seeing it really is negligable anyway. But we'll see you down there. Majura Rocks!!
Check in on Saturday night is between 2pm and 8pm. So there should not be any dramas turning up for the ride on the Saturday morning, and heading over to this place at about 4pm when we are done. I will get the money off you all when we are there. Bring money for alcohol - I will only be buying my own. And maybe some for the ladies.
Sammy, yes I did mean you, but I didn't want to write Sam, in case there was confusion. But, seeing we both had a blonde moment, there was confusion anyway. I'll be calling you Sam now.
Bring on the riding!! Can't wait!!
Thanks for all the work Ditty...
Shooters for you on Saturday night ay!
...dam fine job Liam! expect a big thankyou schooner from me too!
Greg
No problem here! I can't remember the last time I refused a drink?! So I can't see me starting on this trip.
however, Gaz won't be joining us - he said he will come down for the Mont though
now, seeing as i am the ultimate foodie (only cupcake comes close) what will happen about food? I take it we will eat out yes?
and do we need to take any bedding with us and stuff? I KNOW it's weeks away but they asked me to come into work early so i made a massive effort and there is no freakin work ready for me to do to supply the other seven people - so that means i get to cruise about the site for a bit!!!
MEEE
"they asked me to come into work early so i made a massive effort"- your post was at 9.46am, so what time do you usually get to work! (says the guy taking a day off work to tool around at home).
I looked up the Carotel Motel website. It appears we only need to take minimal stuff with us. Here is the list of things included in the Large Cabins we are staying in:
In Room Features
• air conditioning and heating
• colour television
• tea and coffee making facilities
• kitchenette with microwave
• fridge
• dining facilities
• linen supplied
I don't think anyone is going to be safe from the thunder here:
Best make sure to wear yourselves out on the trails to ensure a good nights kip
Bring it on!
That's scary!
....I sleep naked and haven't waxed in months!
Pitty my room mates
I'd be giving the baked beans and sauerkraut a miss in the days leading up to that weekend. A bad case of flatulence can be quite funny in some situations, but that's not one of them!
John.
I have a few team mates coming as well.
Should be a great day.
----so whats for dinner on Friday night - vindaloo??
Andrew
for a few weeks with lots on at work. I'm still coming down but won't be needing accommodation. I hope this doesn't upset the apple cart - but hey, I'm happy to pay you $10 for my share even if I don't stay. Looking forward to it - I'll probably just meet up with the mob at Majura on Sat morning. T
Bathurst telecast starts at 7:00am. Race at 10:00.
Knew you would be interested!
I have to be in front of a TV at 10:00am I have an addiction to motor racing. Recording devices and replays just dont have the same effect.
Last year Rob dragged me down some deep deep gully at Oxford Falls and I missed the start of the race. I was worried about ever being seen again for a while.
Craig
Criag,
I was going to try and organise an early ride on Sunday morning, so everyone can get home by a reasonable hour. This may be at Wingello. Then you don't miss most of the afternoon, as it's only about 1.5 hours home from there.
I, like you, have been thinking of this for the last few weekends. Maybe you could stop off at a pub somewhere around there to watch the start, on the way to the ride.
Cheers.
Yes Sunday is the day for the rev head annual. No worries, I can arrange something I am sure. The ride schedule is just fine.
Just a bit of babble really to flush out any like minded folks. There should be another one out there
Cheers
Craig
for the trip now - sorry! i will 90% chance have to work on the weekend again...will know for sure on Thursday.
If I can't come I will still pay for my accommodation
I WANT to come along...
not come!!!
Can I scam a lift back with anyone?
I've got a lift down there on Sat morning but those mates are only doing the day in Canberra and I wouldn't mind a lift back on Sunday... I live in Lane Cove
Andrew
of this weekend away....not happy about it. docs orders....will sort you out if need be for the accom liam....let me know
sam
Lorrie,
Ive got you covered for your ride home.
Greg
im a tentative for this and only for the day (so will have room to bring one back on the day if need be...) but is dependant on whether i get my s%#& together or not, so 50/50 at this stage lol
hoping it will go away. I'm crushed. I've ruptured the bursa in my shoulder and have 10 stitches in my knee after yet another stack last friday. My wife is threatening to buy me a longboard for xmas. But I will deny my advancing years and will never give up, as with any addiction. Unfortunately I will be going through major cold turkey this weekend rather than riding the trails I've been looking forward to for the last month or more. I'm booked in so still happy to pay for accom. As Wally Binghamton used to say- I could just scream.
No dramas Andy. We can still pay a split amongst the remaining group, as it is still very cheap. Just get your sh*t in order and hurry up and get better.
anyone want to car pool?
I'm doing the day trip only, returning to Sydney Sat arvo. I can take 1-2 people with bikes, comming from Manly direction.
only two more sleeps!
has the mont turned into a bad omen for us lot or what? when i first got to oz ten years ago people told me to keep away from canberra but this is ridiculous! the place is bloody jinxed. get well soon andy. looks like there could be quite a large support crew for the mont. BRING ON THE BEERS!!!
sorry to hear about your unfortunate stack, but the description just isn't enough, we need photos Wishing you a speedy recovery, see ya on the trails soon.
Convoy:
For anyone travelling down to Majura, there are a few of us travelling down at about 7:15 a.m. to arrive about 10:30 a.m. If you want to link up, just drop me a bell on Saturday morning and maybe we can get breakfast together somewhere.
Linen:
No need to bring linen. That is supplied by the Carotel Hotel. Possibly you may want to bring some spare towels or something. Or some extra pillows, so accommodating that harem you were thinking of starting. But leave me out. Otherwise I might start my own.
Lights:
There is the possibility of a night ride on Saturday night. If you have them, and if you want to come along, please bring your lights. Shaun, Tien, Nate... I will bring your lights for you.
Otherwise, bring on the action. MAJURA ROCKS!!

Pics will be a while coming - there's a few to sort out!
Highlight(s) of the day for me... coming round a corner and seeing couple hundred metres of straight-ish, slightly downhill sniggle through the trees and having legs fresh enough to hammer down it. Later riding round and round and round the section just North of the carpark, Bruce's "good call" when I took the obviously-not-back-to-the-cars turn and then having a laughing/gasping for air fit after coming face to face with Shaun & Steve coming the opposite direction on that section after thinking I was riding the same trail in the same direction as them. Priceless
excellent weekend on the bike. cheers to Liam for making the bookings and logistics, and Pikey for the post ride beer on sat arvo.
good too see a big bunch of nob mobbers hammering some of the best trails around.
can't wait too see the pics.
Hey!
Thanks everybody for the great weekend!
Sooo much fun (and food!!), can't make up my mind if I like Majura or Wingello better?? But lucky I don't have to, we'll be back in both areas in no time!
Thanks Liam for organising!
Great pics Rob and Pikey! What would we do without you??
Cheers
Caro
