You are hereCalendar / THE MONT - do you need some practice??
THE MONT - do you need some practice??
Majura Pines
Hey you!
You look like you need a practice ride around Majura Pines before completing The Mont 24hr. So here you go...
This will be especially useful for those that have never been to Majura before. This will let you get used to the feel of the place. And with good reason too... Majura is totally awesome!! It will take some serious discipline on race day to not stop on your lap and do the jumps and roll offs.
I propose that we have a mid morning Saturday ride, so we have time to drive down early on Saturday morning. Then we can make a call about whether an overnight stay is required for a Sunday ride. At this stage, I wanted to leave late Saturday afternoon open, so people could complete their practice ride and simply drive back home. Anyone for some car pooling action??
The drive is about 3 hours once you turn off the M7 and use the Hume Hwy exit at Prestons, Campbelltown. All up, one way travel will be about 3.5 hours.
So, come along and get in your k's before the big day. Happy trails!
Were you there and have a story to tell?

let me check with my team.....
Andrew
Can we do an overnighter and go to Wingello on the way home?
Staying in Bundanoon? Or we could even camp in the centre of the forest - that would be cool!
but will have check the diary a bit closer to the date, October is always a busy month for me.
as Bruce - it will depend on my work - however! as a Liam Team Member I am keen!!!!
MEEE
looks like Oct will be a busy month
Can't wait to get back there!!! Possible overnight stay , haven't been to Wingello.
Come on Christine!!
There is no way that you can let your team down, you are the captain
i like the idea, just have to clear it...
I am keen for the overnighter. But I want to make sure the Saturday Majura day ride remains completely accessible for everyone. But Wingello sounds nice. Rob, is that an ulterior motive I detect? (Fling!!) Too easy.
Well, allegedly there's been quiet a bit of trail building in Wingello. It was a nice place anyhow so just keen to see what's been going on.
Okay!! Wingello sounds nice. I remember that post from a couple of months ago about the local bike club doing that trail maintenance. It would be cool to see what progress was made.
I am in - who needs a weekend at home anyway!
but! I am not team captain - that is Matt
Sounds like fun - where will we stay... as in which area?
MEEEE
I knew I could count on you
Sooo much fun!!!!
Can't wait!!!
Anyone interested in staying down on the Saturday night for some wild Canberra action??
I did a google search and found close to jack sh*t about caravan parks in the ACT. I was wondering if the pollies have banned all but the most classy establishments, so as not to offend their tastes. Interestingly Canberra has a thriving brothel industry (so I hear).
The best I found was the Canberra Carotel Motel and Caravan Park. There are some advantages: It is only 7km from the city centre; and also on the way into town on the Federal Hwy, so it is closer to Majura Rd.
Located here:
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?ie=UTF8&q=caravan...
Details of some bungalows are here:
http://www.carotel.com.au/bungalows.asp
- 5-person 'family' bungalow is $115.00, so all up about a split of $23 each
- 10-person 'large' bungalow is $200.00, so all up about a split of $20 each
We can see how many are going and decide how much space we need. Unless someone else has better ideas. I am open to a consensus here!
Let me know your thoughts.
It's a little bit pricier but if you want everything in the one spot, the Embassy is a popular option and one we always stay at when in Canberra - http://www.embassymotelcanberra.com.au/
Cafe's just 50m up the road as well as an IGA, oh and the all important bottle-o. There's also a pool which is always welcome after a ride. The owners don't fuss about you taking your bike inside which is another thing to look out for when booking.
closer to the date we can look on wotif - i book all our photographers through there... George suggested camping... hmmmm!!
MEEE
sounds like its going to be another great weekend, happy to go with the majority for accommodation.
Although I appreciate the idea, I would not be camping. I need a real bed to sleep in. But we can let the group explore the idea. Just that I would not do it.
It is pricier, and also on the south side of Lake Burley Griffin. It's a possibility, but IMHO the other Carotel joint is better. Keeps costs down too.
Caro, was the Carotel named after you?
It was George in a fit of enthusiasm I think!!!
Can we start getting a show of hands for hanging around Saturday evening for the Sunday ride?
Liam = 1
I will be staying over night too.
Pick me! Pick me!
Erm... I mean, Rob = 3
Mee too
I'm coming. Don't know about my team though
...but what is new? I thought we were going down Saturday and coming home Sunday...
am i having yet even MORE blonde moments?
Yes Chris, you are having a blonde moment. Possibly you may have wanted to PM that. But... we are staying down on Saturday night. Majura ride Saturday, probably Wingello Sunday. Are you in??
as i was on the right track - just you guys like to make things confusing!
My plan as i had it in that space some call my brain (no nast comments thank you!) was the same as yours...driving down Saturday morning yes? Staying somewhere Saturday night and riding Fling territory Sunday...
of course i am in!! I will have the new super sexy ride to bring - woo hooo
MEEE

This comment has been moved http://nobmob.com/node/2923#comment-7982">here.
Been looking around at accom for CNB weekend got some more options....other ideas are welcome.
I guess if we go down sat early and stay sat night near CNB and then head to Wingello Sunday, home to syd Sunday arvo.
1. http://www.eaglehawk.contact.com.au/rates.html (out from Majura about 15km)...its on the road North..?
they have various room configurations. One will sleep up to 6.
2. http://www.carotel.com.au/familycabins.asp (as Liam suggested) large rooms may be a better option...? only issue is no kitchen...anyone for pizza? can sleep up to 10 it is closer to Majura though by about 7-10km.
3. http://www.totaltravel.com.au/link.asp?fid=541582 about 10km out from Majura cheaper still, max 6 berth rooms
4. http://www.crestview.contact.com.au/rates.asp budget with ensuite: small rooms, cheap closest to CNB city no kitchen etc....chrge extra for linen
For those interested have a look, comments on each are welcome too.
Sam
Hey, why can't we stay in the Southern Highlands? Greg and I know this
romanticquiet little place, the Bundanoon Hotel.I mean, we're going to get up early in Sydney, drive to Majura, ride until mid afternoon(?) then look desperately for some night time entertainment in CNB before giving up and making our own. Only to get up early again and drive home via Wingello.
Why not skip the desparate search and drive straight off to party central in Bundanoon? I know we won't get much sleep before 1am, but at least this way one can lay in 'til 10 before hitting the forest!
Come on, you know you want to!
Aren't we doing a training night ride at Majura???
