Hi all,

sounds like a silly question:

can i take my Garmin Edge 800 with me to NZ (I know i don't have the maps, I'm not worried about getting lost) and use it... will it aquire satellites and do the same job as if i was here in OZ when i upload activities??? anyone got any experience??

thanks

I took mine to NZ last year and it worked fine. Satellites orbit the earth so you can acquire them anywhere and the garmin connect software is web-based so as long as you have internet connectivity it will work. I use the Aus/NZ garmin maps so had no problems with maps either.

You can download the OSM map (OpenStreetMap) into your Garmin for free. The OSM map of NZ is quite good. Let me know if you want more details, otherwise Google OSM map. There's also a version tailored for mountain bike riding. Google OpenMTBMaps.

Thats where we went in March last year. Its awesome! If you get a chance head down to Taupo and ride around there. There is a nice trail called the W2K and the Craters of the Moon MTB park.
