Hi All.

Getting ready for the Capital Punishment (17th March), and it's overdue for some serious time spent off-road.

This will be a voyage of the great unknown for this wannabe racer. I've only done this ride one-way, and then they were the easy option; Wentworth down to Glenbrook.

This time it's a climb up to Wentworth via Ingar , then back down again via Andersons to Glenbrook. (With quite a bit more 'climbs up' thrown in between!)

Given the factors (unfamiliarity with the planned route, untested level of fitness wrt a ride of this duration and intensity, general skills,...) I'm not sure how long it'll take, so the plan is to allow the whole day for it. Leave 7:15, and expect to be back late afternoon.

Or thereabouts. Target is to definitely be back before the bakery closes. Smiling

By now everyone reading this must be thinking the same thing; "This sounds right up my alley!" Right? Maybe not. Smiling

But all are welcome to join in the pain. and of course the joys of the ride, and the satisfaction when it's all done.

Disclaimer: I won't be doing the ride if it's raining or the trail is very wet! I'll check the trail updates and weather forecast Friday.

Were you there and have a story to tell?

The way the weather is you will be lucky to get across any creek or water crossing!
I would first be checking to see if causeway is open at G-brook!

Isn't it open again.

AdrianG's picture

Thanks for the tip. The causeway was open the end of last week, I believe. (But that's no reason to believe it'll be the same come Saturday. Weather hasn't been all that predictable. I'll keep a watch on the weather.)

On a separate note: Doing the ride on a hardtail ... pure lunacy?

It's a 2002 Scott LiteFlite frame, with upgraded components chosen to keep it light. Must be in the low to mid 9kgs I reckon. Hoping the weight-saving and peddling efficiency will be to my advantage over a long ride. (On the flip side, there's the extra battering one gets ...!)

They closed the causeway this morning

I do this on a Hardtail - given you spend longer climbing then descending the Hardtail certainly has its advantages.

I must admit I do miss bombing down Anderson's on my yeti though - not nearly as much fun on the Hardtail.

So thats what it boils down to then, is it? Hardtail = efficient work, dually = fun! Smiling

It's not looking good for the creek crossings as the weir at Glenbrook is still closed. It will be interesting to see what the guys report back tonight re the water level.

AdrianG's picture

If the weir is closed Saturday, should that mean a down-down-up-up ride instead?

Start at Wentworth Falls instead, then do Andersons, Oaks and then back up via Ingars? With all the climbs in the last half of the ride? Excellent!

But it does beg the question; what will the state of the trails be if the weir is flooded? I'm not keen to spend 8/9 hours grinding down my newly replaced drivetrain riding through mud!

Brian's picture

I'd be worried about the creeks at the bottom of Anderson's and Ingar. Surely there's someone having Friday off at Woodford that could check if they're passable Eye-wink

The weather's meant to be ok for the next few days, so it could turn out all right.

Soon to find out!
