Gone and got a replacement for the crappy old GSC-10.

Just got hold of the Wahoo Fitness speed and cadence sensor.
Installed, scanned on garmin, ready to go!
Can't wait to try it out on the trainer.

I was going to get one of these to hook up with my bryton 30. Looks a much better design than both the garmin and bryton versions. The bryton speed/cadence sensor is crap as it won't do both at once.
Will be interested to see how it goes.

hi
bit of a newby question and not directly related. i've never used a garmin before and was looking into buying one.

the question is: for xc biking on tight twisty tracks, does the gps give good enough measurement, or is it worth having a speed/cadence sensor aswell? can you select which source actually gets measured??

For mtb trails use a speed/cadence sensor. I use it just to get the correct distance and don't bother with the cadence bit.

So is the advantage in the 3rd party because it is a better build?

I use the garmin one but one advantage I can see is the cadence sensor is on a wire to give some distance to the speed sensor. Some bikes you can use both simply because the ideal spot for the wheel means the crank just can't reach it.

I have that problem with my Rize. The frame guide for the for brake hose is in exactly the wrong spot. Sad

Haven't bothered trying to MacGyver something yet as I've been riding the Ellsworth Evolve off-road.

I have one and they are not waterproof so when you ride through a creek on your mountain bike they get wet and the water causes one of the internal capacitors to become resistive basically causing the batteries to short circuit and die within about one day. This is a common problem that Garmin never bothered to fix. Hopefully the Wahoo ones are waterproof and last longer.

i can get mine wet n dirty & me Garmin still works!-but I mount it up on the top of the swingarm.

I've had one sensor fail and be replaced under warranty on my hardtail, although with hindsight I suspect it just needed to be re-paired with the head unit. I had thought it was due to wet riding.

The second one I bought to put on the Rize went on teh hardtail while I waited, and it did the same things. Going to the system menu and scanning again for cadence sensors seems to have fixed it. haen't tried the warranty replacement unit yet.
