This is one of the easiest hundred kays you could do and still ride some great single track.
I did it last year and saw alot of 40+ riders with all sorts of 29ers including SS going for it.
If you haven't done a race like this before then I suggest to do the 50 and see how you go.
Its easily doable in less than 3 hours with regular training 2-3 times a week.
Hi Harbo
I did the BFBY last year (50km) as my first race. Nice relatively flat track, well organised, relaxed, not too big a field and perfect for first timer.
I trained last year by doing a few 40km or so rides around Terry Hills a few months prior.
A few of us are heading out again this year so hopefully catch up with you.
You will enjoy.
Yeah , thinking the 50km sounds like me , as I said very new at this stuff . Just keen to meet new people and have a good time is all .
I did the inaugural in 2010 as my first 50km point-to-point and really enjoyed it. Finished in the top half of the field (just) so I hit my goal, and more importantly beat my 10-years-younger mate by a few minutes as revenge for dubbing me "Captain Slow" The on-the bike nutrition advice for training and racing from the guys here made a big difference.
Terrey Hills is great training for the type of terrain although I tend to ride out there from home to get the distance up.
You will need to work on cornering, though, which Terrey Hills isn't so great for. The Golf Course sniggle at Manly Dam, or Yellomundee will help you with cornering skills for the singletrack, which is (be warned) on the loose side due to the bull dust.
With an appropriate front tyre you'll be fine. The better your cornering on loose surfaces the less the track takes out of you. Just because it's flat doesn't make it that much easier - you just go faster!
Looking at your user profile photo - I'm not sure you will be meeting 'those' type of people at Back Yamma
