Hey All

I've been wanting to give Ourimbah DH a go sometime before christmas...

Would anyone want to make a NobMob ride out of this?

nate's picture

hey shaun, we've been throwing a few dates around for a day of Ourimbah DH, one of them should stick soon. I'll be sure to let you know mate

new steed?....do tell dez, did you join the vp club?

dez_b's picture

Nate couldn't find one in my budget and was a bit suss on the ones on ebay in the US , I picked up a 07 Cannondale DH replica judge for cheap but wont have her up and running yet as I am getting a new wheelset made up and servicing the forks but hopefully ready for your next venture north .

Dad and I will be there this Sat if anyone is interested. We're planing on hitting up the cross country trail first for a warm up and then setting up some shuttle runs for the DH. I might post a ride meeting tonight when I sort out confirmation of time etc.

picking up my pushy tomorrow with new master cylinder that "should" have fixed all my brake issues/headaches and $$ problems, if not, ill cry!, so if weathers ok (fingers crossed!) ill be up for something like this..

dez, how long till your new beast is rolling?

dez_b's picture

will be rolling around Tuesday Nate , the wheelset is being laced up today then its a fork inspection service with a spring replacement hopefully no other parts needed , just wanted to be sure as the history off the forks maintenance not known
"Im froth'n."
Rode RedHill yesterday wasn't as wet as I expected , just went the high road around the bmx jump park and did the ride we did the other week but added a very quick itchy and scratchy run, sooooo humid came back drenched
I have a plan for a ride Saturday if your up too it as Sunday arvo Im back to work, what's Alex's plan ? you listening mate , are you around for a ride tomorrow?
I have heard the alt Red hill dh to the parkway has been fine tuned and has some shore stuff my mates have been rollin it a lot lately hmmm maybe worth a look Smiling

nate's picture

I've got my mate colin here from the states for a couple of months, We're thinking a red hill ride later today on big bikes if anyone's keen. probably do the usual loops to show him around. dez, maybe let me know you flight plan for tomorrow, not sure yet, but I'll join you if i can.

just give me a shout on the dog n bone tomorrow good to hear your bike is sorted

we went out to ourimbah on sat and was lots of fun.

we kept off the DH though as it was pretty wet so as to not churn it up. the switchback trails were lots of fun though as was a quick lap of the xc circuit.

we had a few pretty funny stacks. on on the big rollin drop on the xc where my brother managed to get his john Thomas caught between frame and rear wheel as he slipped off the saddle backwards. we also had another on the single track where i bailed off a jump, grabbed onto a nearby tree to slow myself down, looked around and saw my brother flying towards me having dumped his bike to avoid riding over mine. bit of a 2 bike pileup. thankfully the rain made all landings very soft and forgiving.

there's been a bit of construction going on that i didn't know about. just after the new northshore bit at the bottom of the first rock garden a new line has been put in with multiple little kicker jump and then a pretty sweet looking northore jump/drop at the end. (i'll try that one with my armour on next time i'm there)

Alex's picture

shouldve got my ass out of bed! oh well..a new, new northshore bit after the rock gap/bridge jump? or is that the one u mean? its pretty good if thats the one..gilbo was rolling it fine a couple of weeks ago, i did it once then had a misshap the 2nd time and went over the bar into the gap, smashing my head, shoulder and thigh pretty hard on the tranny..next time Smiling not as funny sounding as your stacks though!

blackbetty's picture

we're probably talking about the same one. i haven't been there in a while (HSC!)

i must say the tree just off to the right of the landing does look somewhat ominous...

Alex's picture

it was the windy wonky run in to the jump that was what got me, hard to get a good flow into it, i clipped a rock or something with my pedal, didnt have enough speed, and with my previously malfunctioning brakes, it didnt stop me in time so splat hehe.. dez mentioned the tree too but to be honest gilbo and i didnt notice it, i think when your on the ramp, just lining up to hit the other ramp properly is the only real concer ( quite narrow, i had to bail off the exit ramp half way on first jump, luckily making it look like a deliberate sort of double jump thing lol)
anyway went and bought body armor yesterday after all that!

blackbetty's picture

yeah im not sure what im gonna do about armor. ive got full shin/knee and elbow/forearms, i need to buy a fullface asap but im not sure what else i should get given the other pads.

Alex's picture

yeh kneeshin/elbow is half the battle i think, get urself a fullface quicksmart if u plan on doing much downhilling at all! that last stack i had was a full concussive side on wack on a rock that hit right across the left side of the helmet, a normal helmet would not have been anywhere near enough! it payed for itself right there..even with it on i had a headache for 4-5 days and was pretty dizzy for the first couple of days..imagine the damage without! ..i got a pressure suit mainly cause of the shoulder damage, got me thinking shoulder is a pretty vulnerable place and a bloody painful one to brake/seperate whatever..i think i just pulled/strained mine and its still a bit sore 2 weeks on..and with spine protection i had a mate who compressed a vertabrae and has been feeling the effects for years..all stuff that id rather protect myself against if poss! also i have ankle guards as ive done my ankle a couple of times too, but was more an issue with the hardtail, but still always seem to twist it when OTB hard or softtail! finally, (no more room on the body left!) i have been eyeballing some of those six six one padded undershorts as i have pretty badly busted my hip before too (theres a pic somewhere on here with a nice juicy rock gouge)..but i ran out of money and decided to get 5-10 shoes instead (busted my toes a couple of times still black almost a year later haha) and those shoes rock! they even grip to wooden floors like glue..
only remaining protection is some weird looking neck guard ive seen for like $300us!, but thats enough for me lol i dont even really do 2+metre drops hehe..oh well better safe then job-less! having said that u alway seem to hurt the bit thats not covered *touch wood!* It amazes me seeing the big boys like steve romanuik do 20ft gaps in jeans and a t-shirt! ..
