Old Mans Valley - opening date
Any news on the opening date for Old Mans Valley? I've been watching the build via Facebook and very keen to get up there once opened.

Some time next month is as much as we know at the moment.
We hear Council has been pushing the contractor fairly (unfairly?) hard to get it done by a particular date, but have dropped the ball on organising the required signage. Opening can't go ahead without it.
I'm guessing you'll know when we do.
Hopefully in time for Christmas - would be great to get out there over the Christmas break.
+1 for christmas
Hopefully by Xmas, would be great to have some track to take friends/newcomers on during the break! Be great to hear feedback from the council though as to when, I've had a look at the progress and it does look pretty close to completion, which is a good thing, but I know the finishing touches can take an age. But it looks so great - berms, jumps, dozens of wooden bridges done and at least 4km has been built so far, and I can wait if it means a better track!
(It takes 90& of the time to get 90% of the task done. The remaining 10% takes the remaining 90% of the time!).
Synergy are just waiting on signage to arrive from council and to finish the last 100 to 200m below the pool. The pool section is of limits at the moment due to the movements of large machinery and construction above the track.
In the mean time they are going around and rock armouring some section of trail.
So is stage 1 only 4 km? How many km will further stages be?
Not sure of the distance, but eventually it will look like this:
I would have walked along about two fifths of it and it took a bit under an hour so I'd guess around 5km or 6. Short, but it's 5km more than there has been in Hornsby CBD and darn it's a start!
I'm informed by Adrian from Synergy Trails stage one will be 3kms and stage two adding another 3kms. Stage two still has to go to tender yet.
Hawkeye, is that map stage 1or it's 1+2+…?
That map is a pretty dated, it's a photo I took of the map Synergy Trails were working off months ago, but there have been plenty of changes since then. It's fairly indicative.
Imagine a half way line running horizontally across the map. Stage 1 is the lower section to generalise it. Stage 2 will include the northern section including the privet etc which shoudl be pretty cool. There is a facebook page for Sydney North Off Road Cyclists, and a new Sydney North Off Road Cyclists website in development. The Synergy Trails face book page also has lots of photos of the progress.
There has also been a jump and pump track opened at Hornsby Heights, and Wisemans Ferry. There is currently talk of another one to go into Beecroft/Cheltenham. Additionally there is talk of a trails contractor (Synergy i think) improving the Jubes facility at North Turru.
I was told the opening for stage 1 would not have much fanfare because stage 2 will have the green (easy sections) and to open it up just for blue and black bits is not a perfect look for council who need to cater for all. I would not be surprised if the opening of stage 1 is pretty quiet, with a bigger opening when stage 2 is complete.
We are also still hoping for the trial trail at Stringy Bark Ridge as part of NPWS embracing of the mandate to get a bit more recreational focussed, and get more people out into the bush.
PS: Re the other thread about Majura. Just about all the lower section of the hill is wiped out, and closed I believe (I checked it out one night with lights). If your in Canberra, check out Bruce Ridge, it's in the middle of the city pretty much, and you know there is also Stromlo. Kowen Forest and Sparrow Hill are only a short drive too.
Over on the SNORC facebook page is a photo of the latest works, work has now restarted in the 'excluded zone' near the pool.
