Durability Stan's Crest wheels
Still considering options for wheel upgrade. Was considering Stan's Crest or Arch Ex. I'm fairly light, 60 kg. how durable are the Crests for general trails, no huge jumps or drops eg. Lake parra, manly dam, OMV? Only ride once a week, about 15 km. Spoke to a well respected wheel builder who suggested because of my weight and type of riding I don't need anything too burly. Leaning towards the Crest for the lighter weight. So would the Crest be durable enough?

Been running Crest29 wheels on a hardtail for about 2 1/2 years and spent a while of that time well over the upper weight recommendation. Apart from a stick through the rear wheel which bust a spoke or two they've stayed relatively true. The rims have picked up a few dings along the way (I can't be bothered steering around obstacles) but they hold air and stay running straight.
I just picked up a set of Archs on a second hand bike, and I can't say I have noticed any difference in the way they feel due to weight, but they appear marginally stiffer/more direct in turns.
At your weight, my experiences of them makes me think the Crests will be bulletproof.
Crest is perfect.
I am a bit heavier than you, but am pretty light on wheels and things - I have Arches and they are too heavy / burly for me really.
I'd go Crests, with a quality wheel build job, every time unless I was racing Enduro / All Mountain stuff.
I rebuild my wheel with them and have been using them for general trail use, singletrack etc. I weight about 75kgs and they are fine and still true which is saying a lot given it was my first attempt to build wheels myself by hand. Dont put too much air pressure in the tyres though as I found they will blow off the rims as all Stans rims have relatively low profile sidewalls. Weight is good and they are great for a tubeless set up and not that expensive.
It was a great choice as I shaved quite a lot of weight with these rims - about 160grams per wheel from the lower rim weight and the fact that I didnt have to use the rubber stans rim strips for tubeless setup.
I have bent two crest rims and replaced them in the last two years. I am 80kg. They are not perfect but I keep using them.
Thanks for the opinions guys. Another noob question, how do I use tubes with these wheels? Do I just remove the yellow rim tape and valve?
Yep! Though with a tubeless profile, why not give it a go?
Probably will but just want to keep my options open.
Another question. Anyone tried Superstar Switch EVO hubs?

How do they compare to Hope Pro 2 EVO?
I'm having trouble going tubeless with my Rubena tyres & jetblack wheelset so I opting out for another wheelset will look at the crests or try TWE wheels ? Which is everyones option i'm not worried about weight I just like to go tubeless the front end of my bike is very light especially climbing hills & step ups ..
Hey Smiley, let me know if you find a good deal on Crests. Best I've found is from Merlin Cycles.
I picked up my Stans Arch ex29ers last nite fitted the Rubena tyres on with no trouble , it is true about the low sidewall on the rim tho I popped it off on my first attempt , I put 60lbs in too let it set bad idea !!!!!.Got it second time round perfect , wont be around this weekend to try them out maybe during next week or weekend up at Ourimbah but they are a lot lighter than my Jetblack wheelset I had on , so will be interesting how they will go ?
