Now Feb 24 - NOBMOB Newbies at Terrey Hills
Planning a ride for newbies and lurkers and those with new bikes that are yet to hit the trails in anger (c'mon you should have removed the training wheels by now!). Chance to meet up with other riders and members of NOBMOB. Guys, Girls, partners, young, old are all welcome.
This ride will be hosted by Craig (craigs) and Gary (GAZZA) and be at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops for breath, water and discussion. I'd expect a few regulars to come along as well, you know who you are
Terrey Hills is fire trail with a few good hills which will be a good challenge. The ride is an out and back and profile can been seen here http://nobmob.com/node/3472
It is a good first up ride, has a bit of distance, and a glorious view at the end.
Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, tubes, pump and elbow, knee pads if you wish. Snacks would be advised as well.
Time is ready to ride so be sure to get there early enough to get yourself ready.
Come out and say G'day!
Feel free to post any questions!
Craig & Gary .....
Were you there and have a story to tell?

Since when did I get such a reputation Lorrie
Surely fingers should be pointed at Stuart
maybe I should come along and attempt my first ride in cleats and at the same time provide all with some entertainment...

Bernd
See you all tomorrow - provided the weather holds up!
I think this ride is next week, Mick. On the 10th. Not tomorrow. it got me when i first looked at it as well.
Particularly the "leisurely pace with plenty of stops for breath, water and discussion" bit.
Thanks for letting me know - glad I checked before leaving home!!!
if it stops raining ...i'm in
...pretty muddy on the Terrey Hills trail when it's rained a lot. Last time my bike and I were the same colour afterwards. Lots of fun, though. Weather forecast predicts a shower or two. I guess we'll just have to see on the day...
Should it be damp I would be looking to take the road out to the Japanese school and hit the dirt from there. In fact I will make that call now!
There tends to be a fair bit of standing water during or right after rain but only one sticky muddy patch that I can recall just after the turn off...sure there will be a bit of water but what the heck.. bike cleaning and maintenance will be a hot topic for discussion.
See how the week pans out before making the final call...
Craig
you won't stop on the road - don't fancy falling off due to cleats on the road - have to say i am sooo not looking forward to trying them!!!
I know...they are FABulous ... so you all say...
Thinking of maybe getting there earlier and doing Duck holes and Centre tracks before meeting up with this ride if anyone is interested.
I am suggesting we postpone the ride for two weeks to let things dry out and for Christine to get some practice in the cleats. Check the new date proposed....
Craig
...I have a Hens night on 23 February, but happy to make it on 24th as long as it's dry. I definitely won't be able to deal with a champagne hangover and rain. Anke
if it's not raining on Sunday moring i guess i will have to TRY my brand new cleats anyway and terrey hills or duck ponds is as good a place as any...
other than that will be there on the new date too...

...good to have another newbie on board (back of the pack). I usually end up with bruises all over my leg, so I don't think I'll be laughing at you. Promise!
I'm in. Can't believe I missed the Menai ride last week. See you all on Sunday. Now to get rid of the layer of dust on my bike ...
you will be fine- the first ride with everyone is the worst and at least you know some of us!!
i shall no doubt be adding to my bruises in fine form!

nice to meet some new faces at terrey hills today. sorry i never got to chat to everyone. contrary to what others in the group might say, im actually quite shy and found that many new people a bit overwealming and i forget my own name sometimes so if i forget your names next time i see any of you, please dont be offended!
hope the ride brought a few new regulars to nobmob.
gazza
Thanks guys for taking the time to show some of us newbies around! Was great to meet so many new people - see you next time!
Hey all, hope you enjoyed the morning ride.
34 people, some new, some regular, set out on what could have been the best day of the year. Turned up about 8:15 and couldnt get a parking spot so knew this was going to be a "big one".
Had been a busy morning with getting two bikes and two people ready and in the car. Yes, after a few threats Jemima came along and what a ride for a 1st, 23Km off road.
We had a couple of flat tyres, broken chains and few cuts and grazes but overall a really enjoyable ride. Best of all, there were plans for follow up rides and when the next one would be.
Jemima had a great day too and was strong right up to 18Km or so .
We spent a bit of time this week getting the bike set up and getting her kit in order which made a heap of difference. She reckons the padded shorts are worth every cent. I wonder if I will get my bike back now??
It was great seeing so many new faces and hope to see you all again.
Thanks to the newbies and the regulars for a great morning social ride.
Craig
...couldn't agree more. That was so much fun! Thanks Gary and Craig for organising. Can’t wait for the next one! Cheers Anke
Is limping and bruised after Sundays ride but she enjoyed the ride and is looking forward to the next one. Actually she may want to buy Mildred's old bike....
It was a pretty impressive turnout!
tell her about the gears!
Funniest part of the day, was showing Caroline that the gears make the ride uphills easier... Gold, pure gold.
