I assume this will be cancelled due to the amount of rain rain in the past few days.
Ah... go on... Cascades is all sandy/rocky firetrail (well, most - do not ride the techie sniggle in the wet, it will get destroyed!) so water shouldn't bother you.
Watch out for chain suck though!
Not that I'll be riding for another 3 weeks at least, so can give this advice from a warm, dry seat!
I am always keen as but I was just thinking of the trail and those creek crossings. I spent last weekend going over my bike fine tuning the front and rear derailleurs, fitted a new stem so I am going insane not being able to get out.
Ah well... from a mechanical standpoint - yes, I would imagine riding the firetrail with all this wet stuff about will hurt your bike more than it hurts the trail.
is this ride still on? my sister is running there in the morning and will give me an update on the depth of the creek crossings...
It hasn't been cancelled yet. I will be taking my gear to work and deciding on the day.
....as cabin fever is killing me, last night at the gym I snuck into the spin room and hoped on their newest bike hmmmm spin class............whooooa what am I saying???????????? Give me sunshine and a dry trail or give me hell!
Anon
Spin class? Bah... someone I know just sat on the wind trainer for an hour watching Top Gear and some science show. Well - what else you gonna do? Sit on the couch and drink a (few) beer (s)?
You can still ride in the rain, I did 150k on Sunday and it only rained for about 2 hours.
Today I came home wet and muddy, but I was happy.
Disclaimer no single track was harmed during this ride, fire road only.
river at the bottom of bear creek (?) was knee deep this morning when the runners went through it...
I am thinking of doing tonights ride instead at Terrey Hills instead where I have less chance of being washed away...
Unless it's raining, I'm in!
Too wet for me. just replaced my 2 week old chain after doing this ride in the wet last week. Maybe we should just meet at Terry Hills Tavern for a few beers.
Cheers
Olaf
I am still in at this stage.
I rode it on Tuesday night and at one point had to carry my bike over my head as the water was about 3ft deep and flowing quickly (no exaggeration). There hasn't been much rain since so it should have died down a lot by now. Rest of the track was wet and sandy but otherwise rideable.
if that evening precip stays away I'll join you!
.......and there it is, I'll pass thanks.
Hi Rob. How did you go getting you wheel fixed or did it need replacing?
Yeah it was well stuffed. Got it replaced and tried it out on the Perimeter Track at Terry Hills yesterday afternoon. Getting tired of riding on wet sand and clay...
my week of eating and drinking I won't be riding tonight - am going out to dinner instead!
woo hooo
Too wet. Save my strength for another day!
Cabin feaver driving me nuts. So got out for a ride Cascades Wed around 6.00pm. Started raining around 6.15 and did not stop and got heavier. Ralston entry loop lower Carabourn back to Ralston, then back in second loop to exit fire station road back to Ralston. Creek crossing about 2 foot and just rideable if you did not hesitate.
Good to get out. See you next Thursday!
