Mont 24 Hour Race 2014
East Kowen Forest, Millpost Road entrance
Entries are now open for the 2014 running of the Mont 24 Hour Race.
The MONT is a classic weekend of mountain biking and the largest event of its type in Australia. It is a must-do event for first timers and hard core mountain bikers alike. We invite you to enter a team of four or six riders and experience one of Canberra’s most popular ride locations. While there’s plenty of racing to be had, the MONT is also a pretty laid back event, so if you don’t take your performances too seriously, rest assured you won’t be alone. Here's what you can expect.

Hi, we lost one rider in an Open Male Foursome. Please let me know if you want to take the slot. We have two riders of pretty good training and one with unknown training level. So anybody should fit right in!
Cheers,
Volker
Track marshall & transitition marshall is in please behave guys coming into transitition by running your bike thru because I like grabbing front brakes while riders are riding towards timing tent . There was a sign last year saying slowdown & dismount but most of us mtb riders cant read coming into the timing tent .
But its totally OK if you just ride right through the timing tent yelling "STRAVA" and "TRACK".. right??
You are too funny , what is your number plate ill sure to look out for you ...
Hey Volker, are you still looking for a rider? I'm keen! Will PM you.
We also have a spot if Volker's spot is gone.
Relaxed team just looking to enjoy 24hrs of MTB party time interrupted by the odd lap or 5 of racing.
would love to ride if there is any teams looking at serious riding.
4 or 6 man in the over 40's
Have done a number of 24 hr races with a few podium finishes in the 6's and 2's in a 6+6
been doing a fair amount of riding lately. Intervals up Parriwi & Tarragon Zoo.
Northern beaches team would be awesome. But not a total requirement.
Hope everyone has the right tyre choice it's predicted to be wet
Let's hope it's not too bad...
I'm told that apparently when it rains down there it gets wet?
If thats so, then this may change my race strategy..
Hmmm...I think I just changed my race strategy to the SS becomes the primary and the shiny new dually the backup.
You guys have it all wrong.. The point is that this talk of a few drops of rain, mud and what type or rubber round thingy thing or what type of bike is best.. All good questions? Yes! but merely distracting us from the real facts here.
The rain is actually a gift from the MTB God of cycling (I don't actually recall his or her name? but that's not important right now.. But I'm sure she looks absolutely stunning?) The rain is sent down as a present from up above to clean away the dust and create a super fast track covered with hero dirt and to scare away the fair weathered cyclists.. yes those heathen!?
How much of a gift will we get? 10mm. 20m.. 80mm…? It doesn’t matter as we will get enough to cleanse the track of all evil lines, bed in the berms and wash away any inappropriate dirt that hasn’t earned the right to be labeled as hero.
Good luck to everyone who is racing
Brian, you could have also said, "Here's mud in your eye".
Good luck with the arm. Here's hoping it heals quickly and your back on the bike.
From FB about 8:30 this morning..

I'm lucky I hadn't left yet. It's the right call by the guys, and not one they would have taken lightly. First time a Canberra 24Hr event has been canned.
Oh well, off to smash out a lap of the dam and burn some of these carbs I've been scoffing all week!!! #zing!
Cancelled ..... Bugger
I got to Goulburn, it was raining heavy there and looks like it had been raining a long time and very hard.
Would have been like the Somme with thousands of us in the paddock, disappointed but well done for calling it early.. full credit to the organisers for doing the right thing at the right time.
Yep. Very wet there

Social media has gone wild over the cancellation
Yes there are some unhappy people out there
I would not be surprised to see moves are a foot to quell the masses.
I would expect another announcement within the week.
Word on the street is expect some news today. Fingers crossed it'll please the masses (and the vocal minority).
The SPE guys are regular joes like you and I and deeply care for the sport. I'm sure they're doing what they can to ensure the best outcome for all concerned.
It's already been announced - new date in October

Bring it on! The bet, aka the race for the case, stands, Black Flash!
... this should thin out the field at the Husky a fair bit??
Locked and loaded big fella.
The Husky is a dog of a race anyway, haven't spoken to anyone that has done it and wants to do it again.
... sure it's been a bit damp a couple of times, but there's some nice single track involved AND there's no big hills...
Mind you, I've only done the 50, so can't comment about the full 100...
