Details:

Just what it says on the related forum topic. Wanted to get back and look at the last section (this makes up roughly Km 72-92) of the 100Km Dirtworks course but with fresh mind and body. The plan is to meet at the West ferry (turn left, not right bottom of the hill), leave cars there then cross on the ferry riding the 5Km or so to bottom of the climb so as to be warm for that. Then ride the Womerah Range trail, turn round and ride back.

At the South end we can optionally ride down into St Albans for water and supplies, but we can make that call top of Jacks Track. Ride length should be 48-52Km depending on that.

Although Womerah is fire trail, it has some tough climbs. Of course it's on a ridge and you have to get up there in the first place via one of these climbs:

That won't be the end of it though, there are some nasty pinches along the way in both directions.

As this is a supposed training ride please don't come planning to pootle along. Also come prepared to ride for 5-6 hours in the wilderness (we cannot count on that visit to St Albans and have to leave time for potential mechanicals) - basically that means with plenty of water and food for the duration.

See you there! Laughing out loud

Rob Work to Do! So today was a training exercise for the Dirtworks 100Km race. Although it was a blast think it showed there's a lot of work to do. And while you can clock up 50Km plus rather easily around Terrey Hills/Cascades/etc. there's nothing much like a...

Were you there and have a story to tell?

OK, so who's up for ride share to this? Will be leaving St Leonards around 7am, can come via the Pacific Highway & Galston if needed as it's not much difference (actually, saves some tolls that way).

Can take myself plus two more, three more at a squeeze but only if your frames fit on dual arm racks (only have room on roof for one - not mine).

Rob, I'll take ladytoast (Dylan) and critty (Chris) and I could probably fit another if someone is looking for a ride. I'll be leaving from Allambie Heights at about 6.45.

Hey Rob if you are coming via pacific hwy and Galston would you mind picking me up( five minute deviation from hwy), that way I can leave the car with my wife as its going to be an all dayer.
No dramas if you are already full.
Cheers
Gary

I am new to the nobmob site and would love to join you guys to get ready for the 100 if there's a spare spot in someone's car for me and my bike. I think Mick said there's room for 1 more. Give me a call on 0412798026 if that's OK. Hopefully I'll see you there.

Cheers Lincoln

After the ride yesterday I was totally stuffed. This morning my upper body seems to have suffered the most feeling like I have had a serious weight training workout. There is no way I would have the endurance to do the 100km because I couldn't imagine adding 40km to what we did.

Top ride today. Thanks all.
Rob that was a great circuit, thanks for being the tour guide.

Like most, that was a great wake up call on fitness levels. Glad I' only doing the 50 at Dirtworks.

Thanks for hosting this ride Rob, much appreciated. Great day, although that thought never crossed my mind on any of the hills we climbed. And thanks Steve for making me realise just how much work I need to do before May 4. I would be up for another training ride in the area at some point before the Dirtworks if anyone else is interested. See you on the trails.

Thanks for a great ride guys.. it's great to get a chance to see some of the track and meet some new faces.
I feel pretty good today.

Have to say sorry for holding you all back on that final technical downhill.. next time I will keep my eyes open (it's not as if I wanted to ride up that hill again). If it's any conciliation I think I must have been the only one that didn't have a rest stop Smiling

I think I'll use the opportunity of replacing my bent mavic with a tubeless variety this week too, I don't mind punctures when I am on my own but holding others back isn't too cool.

Wake up call? For sure... very keen to do it again in the next couple of weeks though, anyone else?

7 hours in the sun/high humidity less than 3 L of water, definitely not a good idea!

More training to do before the 100 km! and even more thoughts of dropping back to the 50 km....etc.

A few more of these again soon much appreciated.

Tien.

sounds like you guys had a great ride. The problem with the womerah part of the dirtworks ride is that you hit it after already clocking up 70kms. Its a tough section with pinch after pinch. This is one section i really struggled on last yr and not looking forward to it. Another problem i face is i have only clocked up a mere 50km on the mtb since novemeber last yr, i have been mainly just clocking up roadie commute km's to keep fitness up (between 200-300km per week commuting) so hopefully this will be enough for a good dirtworks time.
