4WD lights for your bars?

I'm all set for lights, but...

Was looking for something completely different (OK - not completely - LED lights for a trailer board) and came across these:

Modular lights for the bars (not sure I'd put this on my helmet)? Claimed 800lm for $40AUD.

Worth a look if you want something on the cheap.

You can already buy 1800lm led lights on eBay for $40.

I did but they sent me the wrong ones, 900lm. Cost more to return so I kept it for $20 Smiling

As a light they will probably perform similarly to bike lights, the problem is mounting, and of course, power.
9-30v gives you plenty of options, but most Lithium based batteries work on less than 9v. The lights will probably still work, but well outside their ideal efficiency. LED's like to be driven fairly hard to get the ideal input/output ratio. Ie, you get more light output and more run time driving a small LED hard than you will running a big LED gently.

After all of that you're still left with aggravating mounting, finding a high voltage battery and charger, soldering and sealing suitable connections etc.
Too hard.

Wouldn't they weigh a tonne!!?

Heavy? I doubt it.

But the other guys have a point - it's probably easier to just buy a 'designed for bike' light.

Perhaps my love of tinkering got in the way a bit? Eye-wink

I recently had a similar thought.

I also came across some Lithium 12v motorbike batteries from SSB, these things are less than 500g, and can easily start cars. It'd be no good for racing due to weight etc, but for touring it'd be fantastic. Use a small automotive light bar with 2500lumens, one of these batteries and you'd have ever lasting light. lol
