Kind of funny really. They prove how easy it is, OR how unsafe locking it up is. Maybe we are a little safer here but can't be all that much different.

where the hell can one plug in an angle grinder on the side of a busy street? lol only in new york! fwiw i hear that if you must lock up a bike, using both hard cable and d lock style locks together can be alot less likely to be pinched (but of course still risky) as theives usually dont carry more than one type of major cutting device...apparently Eye-wink

That's just amazing. What a terrible window on an uncaring society.

Although one could of course have to do this having just lost the key to a lock - so what would happen then? You'd approach a dude breaking a lock and ask what they are doing. They say they lost the key. You say, no worries, let's see some ID, you know, just in case someone reports a stolen bike I can tell 'em you took it. Oh dear - you can imagine where that would go and how impossible it would be to follow up! Sad

You're not serious are you Rob, you would approach someone deranged enough to steal a Trek commuter hardtail with V brakes, metal mud guards, horn and bell - it's either the owner or someone who is not rationale.

here, many years ago I parked my motorbike on George st. and some aerosol screwed a large screw into the ignition then snapped the head off the screw trying to pull the lock out, it took me over 2 hours to drill out the lock with a cordless, to disengage the steering lock and hotwire the bike to ride it home, not one question from anyone. I was expecting the police to turn up the whole time because I was sure someone would ring them, but either no one rang or the Police were to busy or not interested. It was a Friday or Saturday night with a lot of people seeing me drilling the ignition. Go figure.

it could happen anywhere

friend of a friend was building a house with mods & cons etc
had a hi tech alarm system thieves broke in & stole the alarm system
you lock your car, do you reckon every car stolen isnt locked?
you get the car back & up for fixing locks or new locking system
they nick cars for the alarms
you wont stop em if they really want it!

if you think about it too much, it will happen....
love the PE tune !! 911 is a joke in yo town
