By Damien - Posted on 27 March 2008

When:
Sunday, 6 April, 2008 - 06:53
Duration:
4 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
I'll be there, no matter what the weather.
Ride Database Entry:
Andersons
Ride Database Entry:
The Oaks
Meeting Point:

Glenbrook train station carpark to catch the 6.53am train dont forget to change your clock 1 hour backwards from current daylight savings time.

Glenbrook station
Details:

This will be a medium to quick paced training ride with the dirtworks in mind so there will be minimal stops and plenty of mashing up the hills (for me anyway on the single speed) I believe it is about 60km so you will need to be able to do that sort of distance with relative ease.

Meet at Glenbrook station carpark with plenty of time in hand to get ready and organized to catch the train now at 6.53am to Wentworth Falls from there I will need a guide as last time couldnt find Andersons and spent the day looking for it (would of helped if I had remembered to bring the directions).

Peter Creeden Great ride thanks for a great ride. For those who had flats, the tire protection that we discuss has a brand name of Mr. Tuffy. here is a link to a random google result: http://www.bendigobicyclecentre.com.au/products.... See you on the next ride.
linco A great ride Thanks to all for a great ride and the legs are feeling it tonight. Just remember that every bit of pain we feel now is a little less we have to feel on the Dirtworks. I kept myself that as I continuously watched Steve and others disappear out of...

Were you there and have a story to tell?

Happy for A/B but still want to stick to the 6:23.

The additional 2 hours of beauty sleep isn't gonna help you away... Eye-wink

The St Helena additional sounds like a good addition... the deviation should allow everybody to regroup and ride the last stretch together.
Looking forward to Sunday!

So those thinking they are an 'A' can start with the A team and if it gets too fast/hard they can chill for a bit and join up with the 'B' team..
Then the 'B' guys who are needing a break can join Rob coming through as the 'C' team on the late train.
Works a treat.

A & B groups sounds like a good idea. Now how do I work out which group to ride in?

Buck's picture

You'll have to organise a qualifying race around the carpark Sticking out tongue

Bringing the road bike then for qualifying.

.. and start a bit later.. sorry guys. I would have loved to have been part of such a mad huge group but after doing the numbers I reckon I am going to struggle to get there at that time, and to be honest I don't have to when I have the whole day to play with. Add to that the weather forecast and I'm favouring starting a couple of hours later (9:23 train from Glenbrook).

At least this way I don't hold anyone up Smiling

this sounds like my kinda ride; it's been a while..can't resist this one though - i'll be there if the weather holds..

Looking forward to ride A+O and I do know the way from wentworth falls.. Since I do not own a car, I will take the train from Central. I anyone's interested in meeting me, see you at Hungry Jacks 10 minutes before.

Man that was a fast ride, Damien thanks for posting this one everyone had an adrenaline charged ball. The pace was hot well before getting to the starting gate with several breakaways and that set the pace for the day with perfect weather keeping us cool enough to go hard. Supagav did turn out to be trouble, he went up the Ando's hill like he had a rocket up him to take pole position (bloody Kiwi's). The pace stayed very quick down the Oaks with the standard race from the heli pad to second gate. I didn't want to disapoint so I did a nice OTB on the technical section but all my limbs are working so I'm happy.
Cheers John.

Thanks to everyone who came on this ride and thanks to John for showing us the way. Had a bloody good workout on the bike and a great day all round even with the last bit of the flu hanging on.

I am looking forward to an early night tonight.

You're not wrong Groover - what a perfect day! You can tell so much when it starts to bucket with rain the moment you pull away from the carpark end of ride (free bike wash). Eye-wink

Here's the profile FWIW:

The 'challenges' (such was my feeble effort) are lap 2 (Andos creek to gate) - 18m39s (zero dabs Smiling) - and lap 4 (Oaks helipad to gate). Would you believe the second is the exact same time (7m59s) as my previously posted best? Unreal!

The pace was cracking... at 20.4Km/h average this was my second fastest ride ever, after last year's W2G. Including 1151m vertical climb you'd have to be happy with that. Well - maybe not the 'A' grade, but I certainly am. Eye-wink

Cheers all!

Just what I needed to get out of holiday mode... hills & speed!
Cheers to Damien for organising, and to everybody that rode today... it was a goodie! Cool

Fastest & longest ride for me ever. My stats were; actual riding time 3hrs 8mins with an average of 19.2km/h. The ride today made the 4:30am rise well worth it Smiling

Apologies to Tien and Lozza for having to bail at the very last minute and making them a touch late.

Sounds like you all had fun!

Thanks to all that turned up today. 21 riders doing a long and demanding ride. I think we all deserved a well earned rest tonight. Or a beer or two. Smiling

I am looking forward to the mini Dirtworks (aka the "fun Dirtworks") that Steve is organising in a couple of weeks. Post it up Steve!!

Supagav's picture

Well you didnt let me down with the promise of some hills. they were tough, especially considering the gear i had to push 32 front, 30 rear equivlent for a 26er. Good fun had by all im sure. Cheers Steve for making me work a little harder than i would normally. It is hard work to follow this man!!!!!
Good luck to all of you doing the dirtworks. I will make sure i get an entry next year!
