Have you seen the rain graphs lately:

Wind trainer loz
As if on queue:

Cool new page! I reckon that is heaps useful!
Hmm, by the looks of things most tracks are pretty wet.. except stromlo and majura....
Trainers would seem boring to me? I've had no experience on them before though...
Loz
Erm... there's in a 'weather' link there on the left for months. Pay attention Loz!
geez, almost a year
And i still toil through the bom
I should probably "surf" through this site more often
Let me think....
Wed night cold and wet, do I further destroy my drive train and brakes before the dirt works or sit in a nice warm room full of like minded people cycling and sweating to disco music and staring at curvaceous bums
Time for the thinking music.
NOT!
Anon
tempting? hahaha
I am also thinking its too wet. Friends have asked me out for dinner so I think I'm gonna pull the plug. Will just have to make sure I make it to both the Friday and Saturday rides....
Cheers,
Loz
The Niterider guys, in conjunction with Supreme Cycles are having a demo night at 7pm. You needed to book in for a demo (now full), but if you have your own lights, then welcome to join I believe.
I will probably go for a lap or two before that (weather dependent). If anyone is keen then to join me then let me know.
I was last at the Dam 10 days ago and it was borderline to say the least, so would imagine with the weekend's rain it will be a bog at the moment.
You'd have thought Supreme would know better than to use it as their venue?
I can't imagine it would've drained much in the last week
I'll probably give it a miss, but thanks for the heads up Chitts
Cheers,
Loz
an absolute bog at the moment!!! http://nobmob.com/weather surely they can wait till it drys up? The erosion caused by a group of riders will be quite unnecessary. Now with the management of the Manly Dam trail in a state of limbo, see the this thread for more info http://nobmob.com/node/4880
Is the dam open or is it Closed.
Sunday it appeared to be open to me , there were certainly plenty of guys up there
.....Sunday and it was open. I have not heard anything since then saying it's closed or clearly I would not be considering riding tonight. The Niterider ride tonight was limited to about 8 people (using demo units)and Supreme said they would monitor and cancel the ride if the dam was closed!
Surely we all have enough common sense to know that Manly Dam would be far too wet to ride without causing unnecessary damage.
Just because someone else is doesn't make it right or OK
Well, as is discussed often here, it's best to use common sense.
Look at the amount of rain that's fallen over the last few days and figure out if the trails are going to be wet or not. At the moment I can guess that the bog on the downhill section will be back and bigger than ever and the sections by Wakehurst Parkway and between Cootamundra Drive and the carpark will have plenty of standing water.
Sadly as you know, Nicole has moved from the Dam and think this has left a gap regarding someone to send out official open/closed mails and organise maintenance. Hopefully the council will rectify this ASAP or plenty of hard work could be wasted.
of getting into a personal slanging match at the moment here is my two cents and i hate it how words on this forum can be read with ones own bias. Please don't! So lets keep this a constructive positive discussion
Regardless of whether or not the dam is open or closed we should we try not to ride on it when its wet.
I don't think that the question about riding the dam should be "Is it open or not??" it should rephrased "Will I cause more erosion when I ride on it when it's wet rather than when its dry" As people on this thread have mentioned we think the answer at the moment is yes.
Personally I (and i know a lot of others)won't be riding the dam will it drys up.
Lorrie
PS Its a fair call on looking for the open/closed signs that makes things easier but... my sneaking suspicion is that the rangers may not be using the open/closed system in Nicole's absence??? hence all this discussion
Guess I'll be training on the roads !
You might wear away the bitumen more when its wet
but yeah, I'm not riding anywhere tonight guys.. Just wishing away the rain for the weekend so i can fit in 2 or 3 epic rides!
Gotta love the long weekend
Cheers,
Loz
Can't say I'm looking forward using it.....
or go a cycle class at the gym, the scenery is much more pleasant!
Unfortunately due to the resignation of Nicole from Manly Dam it appears that no one is advising of the state of the Dam Track. Common sense and preservation for the future use of the over used track should be paramount.
If any one had bothered to contact Supreme Cycles that could have found out that their planned ride has been moved to Terry Hills Perimeter Track which is alot more all weather resistant.
All this slanging about riding or not riding is just childish nit picking.
Get off the computer and go ride your bike. There are still plenty of options
I've gone the cold beer, warm pub option tonight
Will see most of you on the weekend though.
Cheers,
Loz
Slanging? All I have read so far is a reasonable conversation.
