James Williamson Enduro Challenge 2016
Just past the village store on Railway parade, turn left onto Forest road. Follow this for 4km until you reach the clearing with trailhead map, toilet and concrete slab.
Welcome to the sixth James Williamson Enduro Challenge, to be held on Sunday February 21st 2016.
The James Williamson Enduro Challenge is a race unlike any other. Riders come to this event, not so much for personal gain, but for the memory of James. The race is an annual reminder to all riders of the joys of mountain biking and the impact James had on the sport. It is an emotional race for some, from the organisers who knew James closely and to some of his closest friends riding in the Elite category. But for everyone else, the relaxed and friendly nature of the race, does in fact reflect on James and the camaraderie that mountain biking brings to us all .
Four hundred to six hundreds riders race in four distances of 13km, 25km, 50km or 75km.
For the second time in 2016, the Willo Enduro will be part of the 2016 National Cross Country Marathon (XCM) series.
This series is made up of seven events to be held over several months and situated in various states and territories throughout Australia. To be eligible for final podium positions in this series, riders will need to compete in at least four of the events.
The Willo Enduro is the first race in the 2015 XCM series.
All riders who enter the 75KM & 50KM categories at the 2015 Willo Enduro, are eligible to take part in the XCM series.
As a result all riders in the 50 and 75KM categories will receive personal accident & public liability insurance whilst competing in the Willo. This cover is provided by MTBA and included in the entry fee. All riders who have already entered and paid for a Day Licence will have their Day Licence refunded. This will be done using the credit card details that were used to make the original entry. The refund will come up on your credit card statement in the next few days.
Organizing the Willo Enduro, is very much a collaborative effort. The Southern Highlands Cycling Club teams up with the expertise of CORC, with many friends and supporters of James completing the team. Strong support is also thrown in by local businesses. This race could not happen without sponsors Giant, Powerbar, JetBlack, Radical Lights, Rubena Tyres, Frameskin, Enduro Magazine, and Forest Corporation of NSW. All these sponsors provided prizes for the event. Race organisers Rocky Trail Entertainment, Chocolate Foot, Cycle Education, Wild Horizons, The Duo Classic and the Kowalski Challenge also provided generous prizes. A big thanks also goes to ONYA bike in Belconnen, and to local bike shops who contribute in many ways. Thanks to Snax on Trax who provide the food for the day and the Wingello Fire Brigade, who provide the marshals. The race organizers would like to extend a huge thanks to all these sponsors and supporters for without them, this race would not happen.
All proceeds from this race are put back into Junior Development with an annual training camp held each year in November.
