From O/S:

USD $255: http://www.geomangear.com/index.php?main_page=pr...

Even at today's lower forex rates and even with outrageous $45 shipping you're still 100 bucks better off mail order from Geoman than even the cheapest mail order Aussie store I could find.

Wake up Aussie retailers!

Gazza, I bought from Geoman and couldn't be happier.

I sent a PM to Geoman to ask a few questions (they must monitor our site) and they answered ASAP.

I ordered on Thursday night and it was delivered on the following Tuesday - now that is fast from the states.

I bought the 705 and love it. Recently I went to Nerang Forest in QLD, I had previously uploaded someone elses loop and the 705 showed me the way around - I actually raced against this persons loop.

Check the Johnny Appleseed GPS store in Strathfield for Garmin GPS...

Two weeks ago I paid ~ $ 500 for a brand new Edge 705, with heart rate monitor and cadence (used to be $ 800). Compares very favourably with the online shops ...and this model (with the full mapping funtion) is pretty close in price to what was quoted above for the Edge 305.

Go to the Johnny Appleseed GPS store on Parramatta Rd and haggle hard (you'll get it cheaper than what is quoted on their website) Eye-wink

Comes with full Australian warranty - valid in Oz, local service and repair in case something goes wrong ...compare that to sending it back to the US for $ 50 one way (that's what Geoman quoted for postage in a warranty case ).

The guys from Johnny Appleseed know their stuff - and they even install the latest firmware updates for you (good for non-technically inclined people).

I think they are clearing their stock as new models are on the way...including the touchscreen Oregon series. (which is not purely for cycling, but does HR)

It all comes down to the mapping function... the Edge 705 + Whereis Street navigator maps ($) + contour overlay from SM (free) is the bee's knees.

Shows bike & fire trails in ALL AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL PARKS e.g. Centre/Perimeter/Long trail in detail incl. contours.

For the scummers out there - you can select preferred routing for bikes / or cars. The bike setting automatically skirts major roads and the Whereis map has all bike paths built in and routes accordingly. There is also an "unpaved road" setting only" which might be good for MTB.

And you can use it as an in-car GPS with navigation direction as well. The only thing it doesn't have is voice instructions with a Lance Armstrong / Sam Hill type of voice. Eye-wink

for those that are interested in off road mapping and not so much training devices such as 305/705 we purhcased a Garmin etrex vista hcx from Geoman (when the dollar was damn good) and downloaded full topo maps for free showing most fire trails and land marks from shonky maps (see link below). have not been let down so far. http://shonkylogic.net/shonkymaps/
