I just downloaded a free app on my iPhone from the app store called MotionX-GPS. I got the light version which is free and there is another version which you pay about $3 for. The free one is unreal, but i may end up getting the paid version to support this great developer.

Anyhow below is the information that it gave me after a ride when i chose the option to email the ride (track) to me. To test it i just did a road ride around Homebush and didn't start it properly until i got to Silverwater.

I was in the market for a bike computer until i found this, so i hope you iPhone users find this handy.

Nice find. I was wondering what GPS software was available for the iPhone.

Out of interest how long does the battery last when the GPS is on?

As for using it for a bike computer, heart rate and some time cadence are important too, not to mention durability/weather proofing.

Sounds good though.

Does it still work if you loose network coverage? Iphone uses assisted GPS though i assume this is to get a quicker initial fix. I'm considering getting an iphone, though maybe a cheap dedicated GPS would be better for exploring. How do you like it one week on?

I'd imagine an iPhone is a bit too delicate for everyday MTB use. Although... maybe on your bars in a Pelican case or similar would work nice? A quick google finds this:

Although I'd probably want polycarbonate over the screen at the expense of loosing touch ability (you'd want the front to pop open easily when needed).

That said... yes... can someone tell how well the GPS works on trails? Particularly in trees or out of network range?
