Gauging interest for NoBMoB only AMBC Day
Update: OK, it's on June 14 20 @ Ourimbah. Cost will be half price (ie. $80pp).
After the talk in that thread asking about AMBC thought I would have a talk with them about it. Clearly feedback like this is a good thing and I'm pleased someone who sponsors the site is so highly regarded.
I mentioned the level of interest here and asked if we could get a NoBMoB only day going. No worries they say, and if we did this could get a discount thrown in too. Nice!
So I'm posting this to gauge level of interest anyone has for such a day. 6 hours of tuition with up to three 'master instructors'.
Location would be dependent on what people wanted from such a day - so if you are interested mention that. Personally I'd like to carry more speed/momentum through corners on single track circuits but learning to ride the A line at the 19th hole wouldn't hurt[1] either.
So anyone keen?

I would be keen to do one of these days
Pending date of day of course.
I need to learn how to huck off gutters & sabotage faster people's bikes
so I'm in
Rob,
I've always wanted to learn how to drift in a corner, so dependent on the day (Sunday's are my best chance) I'm keen.
But obviously I'm on a totally different skill level than you guys.
Are there any others that are still relatively new to mtb and want to learn how to master some of the trickier, more technical bits?
Cheers
Anke
I'll get an entry for my son Benji. He's already driftng faster than I ever could.
Does that make it a "Fast and Furious"?
Maybe we could have a poll to gauge interest / for what level?
Cheers, Hans
That's what this thread is about. Just comment on what you'd like to see and I'll show the guys and see what they recommend. With more than one instructor we'd split on the day anyhow I guess.
How about having multi skill levels?
I have done other skills day were they split the group in different skill levels but we all still get to see each other for lunch & after the ride.
Bruce.
I'd be up for that.
For a XC training day focusing on racing i.e. descending & cornering and any other good tips...
Yeah guys, I can personally recommend AMBC.....about 8-10 months ago I signed up for Trailbreakers with Aido & my riding improved out of sight (aido is a very good communicator). Some of the techniques learnt, rolls offs, step ups, tight cornering (seat & seat post off the bike to master the excercise), trackstands, etc....even if one doesn't master it all, you have lots to go away & practice with. 1 or 2 weeks later I entered in my first ever race for fun (working week series).
Learning to fly with Andy in Dec, fantastic!! A lot in it, my focus were drops, before then I couldn't get a gutter right, just didn't know what to do with my body/bike, I'm no downhiller at all, but at least I can tackle a foot drop & land on 2 wheels smoothly, still weeking on wheelie drops, will sign up again with Andy.
So I'm in, whether it's Trailbreaker, Learning to fly or Fast & Furious.
And if there's anybody who wants to enter in team event for the fun it, I'm alway up for it time permitting...it's a great buz.
Cheers Sam
Hey Rob,
sounds like a goer, Sundays are also best days for me.
cheers,
Lee
are definitely best for me.
pay me the money and i'll teach you how to ride the A line mate( note to oneself, dont forget the video camera!)
Well both Gav and I would be keen to learn how to ride faster through corners. Going over the basics is always great as well...
I did a course back in NZ and they really take you back to the basics and I learnt a lot. Gav did the same course and He said it was the best money he ever spent.
Nobmob only would be good
i would be keen on a xc racing orientated one.
Dont care much for 4 foot drops and that sort of stuff, but climbing faster, going through corners faster and anything that would help me finish a race faster without having to train for hours and hours on my fitness is always a good thing
Don
I'm interested
Would love to work on my loose surface corner action. Working on hang time could be fun too..
I need some teaching real bad - I suck bigtime.
Last week I came a gutser at Manly Dam on those wooden pathways thingies - they get slippery as buggery when it's wet and ruined my Hot Lap (managed only 47:36).
I need to learn how to climb without getting puffed and sweaty.
I need to learn to go downhill without getting white knuckles and wearing out my brakes.
I need to learn to corner without creating an offshot at the apex, putting my foot down or being overtaken by walkers.
Can anybody help - I'm kean and eager
Roger Roger
even craig gordon gets puffed and sweaty when climbing, sam hill gets white knuckles when descending. With the cornering etc, sign up with the guys and do a course. You'll get a lot out of it.
I'd be keen to learn about high speed cornering. Generally anything X country really.
I've done the trailbreakers course. That was good.
May as well take the next step and learn how to stay on my bike
If you don't fall off your bike at least once every ride, you're not trying hard enough....
response seems good...
now.. how to find a date which will suit ALL of us?
A mix training day i.e. XC, FR, DH or is this going to be XC only?
The skills taught will be by request, so after looking at all these posts a decision will be made. I'm sure there's plenty of scope for flexibility if that's what you want.
Cross Country skills would be great for me.... fast cornering in particular... wouldn't mind a bit of air stuff too though...
I'm after XC only but there seems to be 2 groups forming i.e. those that want XC specific skills training and those that want a bit of everything (XC/FR/DH)...
I'm keen. I have done one of there courses and would like to go more advanced regarding cornering and better braking technique. I feel I brake too much.
The course I did was good but the skill level of people taking the course was too varied which was a bit frustrating.
Cheers
Brian
My lines on my decents are getting slower and worse/wider, so I guess cornering too. Two groups of different skill levels would be good.
Cheers
Gary
Do we want to split into groups based on skill level or riding style?
Don't want to over complicate...
I am only interested in learning how to do better wheelies
A unicycle...
im definetly interested, have a lot to learn and either sat or sun works for me
I would be interested in:
1. Fast and Furious style instruction for experienced XC riders. Learning technical hill climbing technique, high speed cornering technique, correct bike setup, etc.
2. Intermediate Dowhnhill/Freeride instruction for something other than jumping off 1 footers. Cornering technique, body weight movements, drop or jumping technique, correct bike setup, etc.
That would be great!!
I'd be interested in a bit of everything, but more XC type stuff as I don't recover from crashes as quick as some of you younger hard chargers. Correct bike setup, track stands, manuals, bunny hops, technical climbing and swtichbacks. I can do all the downhill sections OK on the B lines around the Dam, just starting to attack some of the tricky ascents.
anke's idea of two groups sounds like the go. My soon-to-be 13yo would probably want to join in too, subject approval from the minister for finance.
Why would Lindsay Tanner have to approve, in order for your kid to ride?
Maybe Hawkeye is using part of his baby bonus or K Rudds handout to pay for the course.
I wonder if she'll pay for me or even get me a seniors discount
Sounds like a top idea Rob, XC would be my pick.
Need all the help I can get at the mom.
Evan
And I like Liam's requests - same for me.

if at first you don't succeed, try not to look astonished.
I'm sure there are a few NOBMOB girls out there, plus maybe the boy NOBMOBer's partners maybe interested in joining a girls group. This way the boys won't be intimidated by the girls skills and ability
I'm interested in a chic's group if there's enough interest otherwise hang out with like skilled males if they can put up with us?
about a girl's specific group. But I see what you mean about intimidating the boys, Chica Maybe a girl's group is the way to go. I also want the hottest instructor on the day
Rather be in a girl specific group please.
Pikey
So, Yes interested thanks Rob!

Ok - so here are the options:
If DH riders get a group of 6 then they can have DH specific day on a date of their choosing.
Ditto for chix only day.
Rest of the crowd seem a mixed bag of skill levels so Kim said,
Think we'll get 6 together for the DH day, but what about the chix?
Cannot commit until I know the date unfortunately as after Easter until mid May is out for me.
Tracy
I was keen for both the DH and XC course. For me, sometime mid April or after is good.
Kim, re the DH course, it may be an idea to post this up as an "Intermediate DH" course, as it flows on from the introductory nature of the Learning to Fly one. If so, you will need to come up with a cool 'tag' for it.
agreed.. after DW and after Easter sounds good
Late april?
How about the ANZAC its not a long weekend, weekend?
As long as it's not on ANZAC day. There is too much alcohol and drunk marching to be done to miss that!
