Mountain Bike Trips from Sydney to Canberra

Just a brief email to introduce myself. I’m putting together a small mtnbike travel company which will take riders from Sydney –pick ups at St Ives, North Sydney and Campbelltown– to Canberra for mtnbike trips. Trips will leave Sydney on Saturday morning and return to Sydney on Sunday night. All meals, transport –including bike transport– and accommodation is included. As I live on the North-side of the bridge it would be great to work closely with NoBMob. At this point in time things are moving along full steam ahead, well the web-site needs a little more work:) but I will begin trips in August and it would be great to take a trip solely organised for the riders of NoBMob.

If there is anyone that is interested drop me a comment and I'll get back to you with more info.

Firstly welcome and congrats on your new venture. I hope it takes off as it is a great concept and will hopefully generate more interest to other areas and make single track mountain biking more accessible to the Sydney masses (not to mention highlighting the need for local councils to get their act together - but that's different issue Eye-wink).

About the website... pm me if you need a hand Eye-wink

I'd prefer a Friday evening start as that gives you the whole of Saturday and you don't have to worry about feeling a tired or stiff after an early morning drive.

I'd certainly be interested to hear about a similar thing to Thredbo!

Also, what would be the go with parking at the pick up points? I work near N Sydney (hence a Friday evening would be even better for me Smiling ) however I'm pretty sure that parking there would be poor. I'm not sure how easy it would be to get a train or other to the pick up point with bike/s, biking gear, clothes etc.

Sounds like a great idea. Would totally be willing to jump up at one of those opportunities.

August is a perfect start time, as I can't ride between now and then anyway Sticking out tongue

So many ideas in so little time - thank you all:) I've definitely thought about leaving Fri but after years of living down in Canb and seeing ski buses on the fwy stuck heading south it isn't really the way you'd (and I) like to start the weekend. The ski resorts are definitely in the plan, just not with winter coming up ... i hear that Brisbane has some amazing single track opening up at the moment. Parking around nth syd is actually pretty good on the weekends, behind the post office is all open on the weekends. it is much easier picking up from there than say central (ugh).

Again thanks for the suggestions and I can't wait to get this started, August can't come soon enough!

so now when we want to do a nobmob to canberra trip we can just tell you - but how many people do you take in your transport and where do you take them to ride?!!!
ooooh so many more questions!

Taken from the website (http://www.mtnbike.com.au/):

"Transport ………… 20 seater bus with purpose built bike trailer"
&
"4 x Rides ………… Bruce Ridge; rollercoaster in the AIS’ backyard
Kowen Forest; fast and flowing with a few hill climbs
Mount Majura; 11k and more of single track
Mount Stromlo; home of 2008 World Cup with 50k of trails
Sparrow Hill; home of 2009 Mont 34k single track"

Cool

thanks for checking out the web site, i've been working on revamping the web site today, ah the joys:)
about doing a NoBMob ride i can assign a certain weekend to take just nobmobers - at this point in time i've got one weekend tentatively booked for a cycle club on Sat 8 and coming back Sun 9. How about the weekend after that? When I have the website fully loaded it will have costing and more details but if you are interested i can certainly pass this along beforehand. I can also pick up from a central location (if St Ives or North Sydney is not convenient) which is easy for you all. if you do have other questions just let me know.

Cheers - Will

Hi Noel,

The trailer should be ready by late-May then I have to build the 'stays' for the mtnbikes ... I'd hate to say yes and then can on you! In riding this weekend i ran into a few nobmobers (g'day ar_junkie, Blondie and Tsung at West Head) and it seems like a weekend in August is definitely on the agenda. Can't wait!! Good luck to you all at Dirtworks.
Cheers

Hi.

Please explain these "stays"? Are you talking about the " U " shaped poles that attach to the crank arm? As see on some downhill trailers, which are normally used at race events. They normally damage/scratch the crank and crank arms?

Will, you bumped into me, not junkie. I wondered how you knew my name! Junkie is much quicker than me btw Eye-wink

Morning, about the crank holders, i've put a lot of thought about how best to transport the bikes, crank holders are less moving parts and give the bike a solid anchor point. As of late i'm seeing more and more Grip Sport bike carriers which are of course Australian made:) As they mention on their web site they are 'Exactly the same crank holders as found on our famous Towbar Carriers!' About scratching cranks, yes that is somewhat true but there is a way to avert this from happening ... http://www.gripsport.com.au/bike_main.php?part=b... (i can post this if you'd like) also when i look at my dearly beloved mtnbike, i have just a few scratches on my cranks from my own riding ability:)

Good Afternoon All,

I'm planning on offering a trip solely for NoBMoB'ers in August. After running into a few of you the other week it seems that there would be enough to fill a 20 seater. It would be great to start to get a list together of those who would be interested in going. Any questions drop me a line and I can call to pass on more details.

Cheers -
