BoooOOOOooo
It was my second time in the Elite world (the fist time was JetBlack 101) and the start was really interesting.
I said to myself try to hold on for as long as you can ...
We were 4 women in the Elite group, when the race started the pace was actually not too bad at all (I was actually surprised!) There was some on/off pace (really fast and bit slower) typical road race thing to do ....I was behind Lee and Jason English (Who was chatting with another BMC rider).
We lost the two other girls at the start, so Lee and I were surviving in the Elite bunch...Lee lost the bunch before me then I lost the bunch...A pain in my left leg was starting to be a bit uncomfortable therefore when I arrived at the bottom of the first hill, I pushed my yeti. Lee rode it all but she never got away from me I could see her all the time. The pain took my all left leg and a part of my lower back, it was getting worse and I was riding for just 25km. I lost the visual link with Lee at the 30km mark when Gav passed me. I was not feeling good and my thoughts were not positive at all. Gav said to me keep pedaling gently ...
Later John passed me and said to me to follow him and I couldn't. I couldn't go any faster, it was just too painful, I said to John that he should carry on and that could not follow him.
later after the 50km, I could see Lee again and I was strait behind her. Then she took off in a descent, I was so unbalanced because of my leg that my bike was all over the place therefore I lost her again...It was so frustrating! going up the hill was hurting, going down was hurting maybe the flat bits were the less hard on my leg...
I tried to fight the pain that was telling me to give up!!!!I said to myself maybe 3 times that I must finish what I started and I can not give up a 100km when I survived a 24hr ...so I carried on. Sometime I could see Lee, sometime I did not know how far in front of me she was but I carried on...
she was walking on the bridge when I was waiting for my turn to cross the bridge. I waited maybe 3 min and then I walked it (yea I was too chicken to try to ride it)
Then not far to the finish, I was trying my best to gap the time between me and her. I really thought she was miles away, I was happy when I saw the results at the end as she was just 4 min in front of me.
I did not have a good race feeling wise. I couldn't enjoy the rocky fun part of the race because of the pain. However I am really happy that I finished it because I got over the DNF demon !!! I gave 100% I could not have gone any faster!
It was fun to spend time with the NobMob people!! congratulation to everybody who did and finished their first 100km (and hard one) !! some of them spent 7hr on the saddle and I reckon they should give 12hr races a go as they might surprised them self
and supa big congratulation to Gav who did a beautiful time !!! I knew when I saw him that he was feeling good and going to do supa good that also helped me to carry on!

I had no idea your leg was that bad when I saw you at the end... thumbs up for keeping going! Another podium eh?
Not too bad for a 1st timer at the Dirtworks, a!
One thing 24 solo's teach you is too keep pushing in adversity 'cause it's never as bad as what you've done before. You did great to get so close to winning with not only a crook leg, but you won't be at your best 3 weeks out from the 24 solo. If you're like me I've done almost no quality training for a month now. Congratulations.
John.
I am a bit worried to be honest as I have never injured myself like that before
I am going to see an Chirop and a sport physio asap
Otherwise I need to take it easy for a wee while until my left leg is back to normal
