How to fix your Garmin Edge - Extreme Edition
We've previously talked about fixing Garmin Edge units here: http://nobmob.com/node/7864
And in that other thread there was a link to someone who bypassed the spring loaded connector for power.
Well, recently, Steve01 threw his old Edge 305 at me in disgust and taking up the challenge I decided to have a bash at fixing it. Here's what I did...
Garmin Edge 305 Front/Back connector
This connector between the front and back of the Edge unit is the Achilles heel of the design. If the unit is shaken a lot (as it is on a bike) then these contacts can loose touch just for a split second. When this happens to the one carrying power - that's when your Edge turns off half way through a ride
How to fix your Garmin Edge
For all those who have an Edge that powers off randomly - this might be something good to try:

BTW - while we're at it, if your Edge seems completely dead it might not be. If you haven't used it for a while plug in the USB for a while to make sure the battery is not dead then try this:

as most of you know, i work with wood and not with computers like the rest of you on here. i purchased a garmin 705 a while ago and have managed to download all the extra maps onto it but i cant unlock them from it. whenever i turn it on it says 'cant unlock maps'
can anyone please p.m. me and explain (as if you were talking to a very simple person) how to do it? or even better, could someone do it for me?
