Bike and accessory talk. How do I fix my brakes? What's a good fork for me? Check out this hot bling! etc.

Does a new chain need cleaning?

I'm about to change my chain for the first time... I've seen it done a few times now, & taken out a broken link once myself. Not hard.

But, does my new XTR chain come pre-lubed? Or do I have to degrease it and re-lube it? What is that stuff it's coated in in the packet...

Disk brakes

Can you mix brands when it comes to brakes?
For example put shimano rotors on an Avid system?
Does it fit and will it work?

I bought and installed the seat post a month ago, seemed to be working fine without a tweak for the first few rides but now it wont return up unless i pull it back up while holding the button in. Ive adjusted the return speed to max but that hasnt helped.

Bleeding Avid Elixir's

Well i am about to change my brake lines on my avid elixir cr/sl's, i am putting goodridge lines on it, only problem is i have been warned that the elixir's are very hard to bleed and been described to me as an art form??..i have had a massive amount of experience with bleeding shimano brakes very successfully over the years, but this has got me worried, any hints from anybody on what makes these so hard would be very much appreciated!

Crank lengths - 170mm vers 175mm

I'm curious to know what the Pros and Cons are and when I would choose to run 170's over 175's etc?

Cheers

Crank Creaks

Guys recently swapped out the chainrings on my 2006 Specialized XC Comp.
All fine except now the whole BB/crank assembly creaks like a bastard.
Never did it before I pulled the cranks off.
Any ideas what I've done/not done...?
What's the correct way to tighten the crank onto the splined BB shaft without special tools.
Cheers

UST Tyres on Standard Rims

Another one of my novice questions. Can I run a UST tyre on a standard mountain bike rim without changing anything on the rim/wheel?
