MTB Gear
Out with the old, in with the new
Well its that time again, the chain and cassette are in deserate need of replacement. How much will a new chain and cassette cost me? I don't really want anything expensive and top of the line. That being said i do want something that will work well and last
Also, where can i buy from?
Any suggestions will be apreciated
Not so flash wheel
Went for a cruizey two laps of manly dam on saturday, after 1st lap i noticed a very loose spoke, so i tightened it, then checked again after lap two, and TWO spokes were loose, nearly undone.! The wheel is a Red Metal 3. and i aint a heavy rider, and dont think i was going too hard. This wheel has been dissapointing. What tough wheel should i get next.?
[Mod. moved to MTB gear]
10 speed V 9 speed shifting
Anyone else noticed that the shift feel between 10 speed V 9 speed (both SRAM X.0) seems that the 10 speed is harder to shift (like more tension on the mech)?
Having been riding a 10 speed for a while, I really noticed today when I took the old trusty 9 speed out for a ride and found the 9 speed just shift feels better all round..?
Cables are good on both bikes.
Annoying creak
G'Day guys.
As most people probably experience I've got an annoying creak from the back of my bike somewhere. I'm hoping it just the bottom bracket threads needing a bit of grease but I can reproduce a similar creak by holding the seat and pushing the back wheel side to side. I've greased the seat post and rails and sprayed silicon lube on all the pivots and checked the tension on all but the one behing the chain rings.
The creak is much worse under load going up steep hills which made me think BB.
New Bike Time - Mountaincycle Battery
The new trails, particularly the twisty downward inclined sections.....won't say downhill.....have inspired me to go get a new ride.
Frame/fork has made its way to sydney and I'll be getting it friday next week. I expect the building of the bike will take for ever.
This won't be my every day bike (that's coming later in the year http://www.mountaincycle.com/zenII), so I decided to go something that will be fun on the downward sections, most likely a lot of work on the way back up, but good for some fun desents, general stuffing around and a bit of jumping.
Meet the Battery.
like a slip!!!
just changed cassette & chain today(both XT) but when on first ride it seemed like a slip of the chain when pedalling in middle ring(mainly the 2&3 gears) & from when pushing hard on left crank!!!-is the middle ring too worn?
1x9/1x10 setup
Thinking of changing to a 1x9 or 10 setup as i spend most of my riding time in the middle ring (32) and would like to run a chain guide. Just would like some opinions on a good gear spread cassette and pricing for the chain guide, cassette and chain.
Cheers Will
XTR Front Derailleur Issues
hi all,
having some issues with my front derailleur (XTR e-type). just can't get this thing to behave properly. I have currently adjusted it so it works well enough for the high gears (large CR front, smallest cog rear) and its also fine on the small chain ring.
however on the middle chainring the chain starts rubbing the inside of the FDR as soon as i shift on to the third largest cog on the back
releasing some tension on the shifter (SRAM X0) helps but that in turn means the chain will rub against the outside of the FDR when back in the 3 fastest gears (large CR front)....
Worrying sounds
I was recently riding at Manly Dam and heard a worrying creaking/clisking noise coming from what seems to be the suspension. (maybe it's the headset?) I've heard the sound before and never payed too much attention to it. Its gotten worse (every bump i hear the noise) and i am a little at loss at what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx
Mtb Saddles?
XC and marathon racing saddles - I am looking to replace the Scott branded saddle on my spark 40. I would like to save some weight and also something which is narrower.
The thing with a saddle is how do you know unless you put it on your bike and ride for a few hours?
I am a lightweight and find the scott saddle gets in the way a bit when I move forward and back. On my road bike my saddle narrow with almost no padding and I find this is comfortable.
