Dirt Night - Mountain bike meet and greet and swap meet with great prizes - community meet up

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

We had over 60 people turn up for the third Dirt Night, our monthly MTB meet and greet night held in conjunction with Forestville Ferrets Rugby. We had speakers from Avanti Hellfire and Trail care with both St. Ives Cyclery and Avanti+ Narrabeen chipping in with prizes and free basic bike services. Specialized also kicked in prizes and in the end we handed out two major and 2 minor prizes.

The clubhouse was full of bike and buzzing with riders talking all things MTB. We had some great video up from Specialized on the projector and snag sandwiches and snacks catered by the rugby club.

Glass on trail

Top section of fairly popular (yet unofficial) trail on Northern Beaches has deliberate scatterings of glass in numerous places. Walkers have placed branches across track in the past.

Aggressive driver Terry hills - Watch out Brown Nissan Pulsar

As cyclists we interact with some monumental idiots on the road but this guy is showing form and so posting a warning. Last week saw this driver blasting his horns and being a DH to two girls on McCarrs then he closed shaved me and the next guy at speed. This morning saw him again around 9am as I was heading into Duck Holes - doing the same thing this time I was lucky and on opposite side of the road. Cleary a local or regular.
The guy has a problem with bikes - It's a dark brown POS Nissan Pulsar - Plate starts with WMN - I think.
Watch out and try and get his plate

Pittwater Bike Plan

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Not MTB-specific, but may be of interest to anyone north of the bridge (Narrabeen Bridge!)

Project summary
Pittwater Council is working on a new Bike Plan which will encourage an active Pittwater, where cycling is supported as a travel choice around our town centres and villages. It will also identify other important cycle linkages to destinations like beaches and parks.

We are looking for input from all types of cyclists, from commuters to retirees and families, to help develop the plan to nurture a bike-friendly community.

Manly Dam double step

I was really disappointed to see someone has jammed a rock into the double to smooth it out. This is one of those technical features you really have to work at (and buying a bigger wheel size helps) so jamming a rock in there is just the worst kind of dumbing down the trail.

The Mistress

I was out riding "Daisy Dukes" yesterday and at the last corner where the track turns off to the reserve behind the houses of Penrose Pl and there was a new trail "The Mistress" a descending track. It was really good with nice corners and still not quite worn back ending up back at the bottom of "Daisy Dukes". Does anybody know when this trail was made. It is a nice track if you can you should ride it.
Have fun Smiling

Please! Stop riding Bantry Bay Engravings Trail: The selfish few threatening new trails

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

These pics were sent through to us showing that people are still using the old engravings trail at Bantry Bay and now a new exit down the fence line by the new estate.

If you are riding this or know people riding here please stop. NPWS has gone to a huge effort and spent a large sum of money to give us the mtb community Serrata and Gahnia trails to replace this trail.

Please Update Trail Status if you Ride on Saturday

I am looking to head out to Old Mans Valley, then St Ives singletrack, duckholes and Centre, Cascades, Possum and Manly Dam on SUNDAY morning so looking to get an idea if that is daft and I should stick to the road bike.

Bantry Bay ride-able 27/06?

We had a decent amount of rain on the coast yesterday and into the night but with a full day of sunshine today will Bantry Bay be ride-able tomorrow? What do you guys think?
