Lane Cove National Park update for 05 Feb

Status:
Amber/Some Issues

Track is dry and in good nick from Gloucester Ave through to Devlins Ck track, with nice traffic lines developing with the extended dry weather.

However, according to signage, there is some Water Board work going on that will block the main trail from the last junctions either side of the Browns Waterhole cycle path (i.e. Kissing Point Rd / Vimiera Rd link) M-F 2-17 Feb from 9:00am to 2:00pm each day.

It's almost cool along the river in the shade, even towards the middle of a stinking hot day. Just getting there (and back!) is a struggle.

Do you have more information?

Hot lap? - only temperature wise!

Date:
5 Feb 11

27c at 7.30am - not what I would call ideal conditions. No breeze.

The heat did not deter others - 1 x horse, a large pack of trail runners, a number of fellow riders.

Still I managed to scrape a little off my PB. Bring on the cooler weather.

XC Knee/shin guards

Hi guys, I'm looking for recommendations on some knee/shin pads for XC riding. Need to be comfortable without being too hot to ride in for a couple of hours. What are your thoughts?

saving weight - where to start?

Hi all,

been thinking of trimming some weight off my bike (Spesh FSR XC comp). where's the best place to start looking to make the most difference? best changes from cost/benefit perspective? ideally i would like to take 1-2kg off the bike. would i be able to feel this difference out on the trail? i'm thinking wheels or fork. it will be a gradual process as it's probably going to cost lots of $$$. maybe i should have bought a better spec bike to start with.

Thanks guys and gals

Queensland Rides?

Im heading off next week for a holiday in Queensland. Will be spending 1 week in Hervey Bay and 1 week on the gold coast.
I was thinking about taking mine and my girlfriends bikes.
Does anyone know of any rides to do in these areas?
Is it even worth taking them along?

Chain keeps coming off big ring over bumpy ground...driving me mad...Help!!

Hi,

I ride a Scott Spark and whenever the going gets bumpy....downhill at the dam....section down to the hydro lab etc, my chain comes off the big ring in the front. I have checked the length based on the guidance in Zen an d the art of MTB maintenance and am happy that it is correct (one link overlap big cog to big cog without derailleur).

What else can it be?? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Garmin Edge 305 battery replacement

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I noticed that the battery life on my Garmin Edge 305 had (over the last three years) dropped to about 6 hours from the 12 hour typical battery life that it is meant to have when new. 6 hours is not enough for a 100km enduro race or a 24 hour race.

Mont Training: Hill Repeats at Terrey Hills

When:
Sunday, 6 February, 2011 - 07:30

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Duck Hole/Terrey Hills Trail
Meeting Point:

Although we don't normally ride this trail on it's own, with a bit of road work it makes a nice loop from Terrey Hills shops (on Booralie Road) then onto Centre Track and back along the road to the shops.

That's the same as the more standard Terrey Hills rides.

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

After a warmup ride down the Duck Holes trail to McCarr's Creek Rd, we'll turn around and do 4 to 5 repetitions of 5 minute climbs back up Duck Holes, followed by a cruise out to Perimiter and Long and possibly a diversion to Cowan, at endurance pace.

The goal here is to get our climbing legs ready, as the trails at Kowan are supposed to have a few more climbs than the previous venue.
