pleased, but could have been so much (18min) better

had a ball. was pleased with the performance despite voluntarily adding on 8km and 18min to my time by missing a turn marker in the wineries section. (see obvious loop three quarters around the wineries stage). managed to work with a struggling elite to bring back some time, but i know it could have been better. not to worry - i know the way now!

the new spark RC ran flawlessly which was great!

The fling this year was billed as the best thing since slice bread.
Lots of new single track, some virgin for the event. Relentless hills, and really hot.

I was aiming for a 6 hr finish, but had a horrendous night's sleep. Sleeping in my car, it had filled up with about 23,000 bugs, and I was devoured through the night, finally getting to broken sleep around 2am. Up at 5:45 for breakfast, and I knew I wasn't going to be in prime condition.

Meryla State Forest

McPhail's Firetrail

The tracks in this area take the rider through some of the most spectacular parts of Meryla State Forest and Morton National Park, offering some fantastic riding opportunities.

The two main rides on offer are Meryla Pass and McPhails Firetrail, both of which traverse the escarpment from Fitzroy Falls to the floor of Kangaroo valley, some 600 vertical metres below.

They can be linked for a 4-5 hour epic of climbing and descending. This can be done in either direction, so you could descend into the valley via McPhails and return to Fitzroy Falls via Meryla Pass, or vice versa.

Epic 29'er - noice....

@ Olympic Stadium Sydney: Specialized "Test the Best" MTB bike event. Got my hands on a nice carbon Epic 29'er....(N+1?...one day). Benji and his friend Greg on Carbon Stumpjumpers. We could actually try the bikes on dirt tracks at Olympic park and the nearby Monster Four Cross track. Noice. I'm sure it left an impression.

Centre Track update for 14 Nov

Area:
Centre Track
Status:
Green/Open

Moist, but no puddles to speak of. One of the better options after extended rain.

Lots of scumer traffic on the road sections linking up the DH + C loop this morning. It was nice to pass a few of them on the climbs.
